This collection "The Complete Poetry of John Keats" contains all of his poetry: the early work, which is often undervalued even today, the poems on which his reputation rests including the Odes and of the uncompleted epic Hyperion, and work which only came to light after his death including his attempts at drama and comic verse. It all demonstrates the extent to which he tested his own dictum throughout his short creative life. That life spanned one of the most remarkable periods in English history in the aftermath of the French Revolution and this collection, with its detailed introductions and notes, aims to place the poems very much in their context.   The Busybody

  The Busybody is the most popular comedy by the eighteenth-century playwright Susanna Centlivre. The play centres on two couples trying to form a relationship against the wills of their guardians, and in a battle of wits, playing with many conventions from theatre traditions across the continent, a conclusion is eventually reached.
  Like her predecessor Aphra Behn, Centlivre was immensely successful in her day, drawing huge crowds to extended runs of her numerous plays, but the stabbing male pens of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries decried her work as being louche and dangerous, and her name slowly sunk into obscurity.
  This edition, published with William Hazlitt's prefatory note and extra material on Centlivre's life and writing, seeks to highlight the dexterity with which she took on the stage.

  Pyth in love - A poem in form of...

  In the poems, Pythagoras is always searching for meaning in patterns—in the caws of crows, the flight of geese—but he is also visited by the random.  “But then, without a sign, the crow departs; this randomness of fate gives him a chill./He sees the beauty of wings merged with night …”  Was it a random coincidence that I was at the same time writing a book set on an estate with Italianate gardens?  Inspired by Lee, I created a poet named Zalman Bronsky who wandered through the Italian gardens composing sonnets, which Lee graciously agreed to write.  Immersed in researching the Italian gardens, we traveled to Rome and Sorrento in the summer of 2004.  While walking in the Roman Forum Lee discovered a bust of Pythagoras and was inspired to write “Counting Toward the End,” in which “Pythagoras divides the summer dawn/into the cosmos, multiplies by breeze/and quality of drifting yellow light/to calculate how many roses  thrive/within the boundary of circling sight.”  His calculation conflicts with what he sees and yet his “faith in truth of math endures despite/this failure.”
