~~~~~ PG Excerpt ~~~~~
Brooke jerked her head up when her phone pinged. She fumbled for it looking at the time and groaned when she saw it was after nine thirty, another hour and a half without any hits
But she had one now!
“Hello, my luscious baby girl! Are you up for some company?”
“Why yes, I’d love someone to hang out with. How long would you like to visit?”
“How about we start at what two hours of your time would cost?”
Two hours? A guy could only go so many times. This was obviously going to be heavy on the girlfriend experience, and she was fine with that.
“$500.”
“I believe you’re selling yourself short, your time is valuable, kitten. How about we say a nice even $600?”
“Thank you! When do you want to come?”
“Hopefully shortly after I get there.” The text was followed by a cat emoji. “I loved the picture of you pouting. Can you be bratty for me?”
“I am a spoiled little princess and get mad when I don’t get my way.”
“I do love sexy little brat, you feel like being a good girl or a bad girl tonight?”
“I feel like being your girl.” Brooke smiled as she replied.
“My god, you’re perfect! What room?”
“215.”
“I’ll be there in a few minutes.”
“Can’t wait to see you, daddy!” Brooke included a lollipop emoji.
“Not daddy, baby girl, it’s mama.”
Brooke’s stomach fluttered.
“You’re a woman?”
“Last I checked, yes.”
“I’m sorry, I don’t see women.”
“Your ad says you do, sweetie.” A moment later she texted a screen shot of it.
She went to the section where the site provided a list of services where the providers would uncheck anything they wouldn't do.
“Crap,” Brooke breathed when she saw she’d left ‘will see women’ on there.
“I’m sorry. That was a mistake, I didn’t mean to waste your time.”
She jumped when the phone rang, and she saw it was the woman calling. She thought about not answering, but this mess was her fault, and she didn’t need to add being rude on top of it.
“Hi,” she answered softly.
“Hello, Brooke,” the woman’s tone was sultry and hinted at the sex she’d been offering her six hundred dollars for. “My name is Savannah.”
“I’m really sorry,” Brooke didn’t know what else to say. “I was in a hurry and not paying attention.”
“It happens, at least you didn’t leave Greek on there and don’t want it.” She laughed. “Now that’s awkward.”
“I guess,” Brooke did offer that service. She hadn’t gotten into it yet, but it was worth the extra hundred she charged.
“You don’t see women?”
“No, sorry, I don’t.”
“Don’t as in no interest or don’t as in you just don’t want to do it for money?”
“I’ve never been with a woman.”
“Really? Your telling me as hot as you are no girls so much as kissed you?”
“No.”
“Then try something new! I promise I’m a very good teacher,” she released a sensual purr into Brooke’s ear. “And what an honor to bring such a pretty kitty into the sisterhood.”
“Sorry, just not into it.”
“Are you into taking any man who pays into your mouth?”
“That’s crude and I need to…”
“Yes, sorry, that was rude, but the point is valid. They’re no one to you other than a client for a service you provide. Consider this another service you can offer."
Brooke caught herself thinking about it, as another provider once told her 'Flesh is flesh." could it be that simple?
    “This photo essay produces a very effective picture of the defeat of British forces in Malaya and Singapore by the Japanese . . . Highly recommended.”—Firetrench   In just 10 weeks from 8 December 1941 to mid-February 1942, British and Imperial forces were utterly defeated by the numerically inferior Japanese under General Yamashita.   British units fought hard on the Malayan mainland, but the Japanese showed greater mobility, cunning and tactical superiority. Morale was badly affected by the loss of HMS Prince of Wales and Repulse to Japanese aircraft on 19 December as they sought out enemy shipping. Panic set in as military and civilians withdrew south to Singapore. Thought to be an impregnable fortress, its defenses against land attacks were shockingly deficient. General Percival’s leadership was at best uninspired and at worst incompetent.   Once the Allied troops withdrew to Singapore it was only a matter of time before surrender became inevitable. To make matters worse reinforcements arrived but only in time to be made POWs.   The whole catastrophe is brilliantly described in this highly illustrated book.   “The powerful story of a tragedy illustrated with many previously unpublished photographs, this is a highly enlightening text on the Forgotten War.”—The Bulletin of The Military Historical Society   “Contains an interesting set of well captioned archive photos showing a period that was among the darkest days for the British Commonwealth during WW2.”—Military Modelling
    For the audience that made a major bestseller of Simon Schama's Citizens: A Chronicle of the French Revolution comes this exhaustively researched, character-driven chronicle of revolutionary terror, its victims, and the young men---energetic, idealistic, and sincere---who turned the French Republic into a slaughterhouse.            1792 found the newborn Republic threatened from all sides: the British blockaded the coasts, Continental armies poured over the frontiers, and the provinces verged on open revolt. Paranoia simmering in the capital, the Revolution slipped under control of a powerful clique and its fanatical political organization, the Jacobin Club. For two years, this faction, obsessed with patriotism and purity---self-appointed to define both---inflicted on their countrymen a reign of terror unsurpassed until Stalin's Russia.             It was the time dominated by Maximilien Robespierre, Georges Danton, Jean-Paul Marat and Louis-Antoine Saint-Just (called "The Angel of Death"), when Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette met their ends, when any hint of dissent was ruthlessly quashed by the State.  It was the time of the guillotine, neighborhood informants, and mob justice.             This extraordinary, bloodthirsty period comes vividly to life in Graeme Fife's new book.  Drawing on contemporary police files, eyewitness accounts, directives from the sinister Committee for Public Safety, and heart-wrenching last letters from prisoners awaiting execution, the author brilliantly re-creates the psychotic atmosphere of that time.
    World War II rises in its vastness and complexity over the rest of human history. A number of victims difficult to conceive, never surpassed by any other conflict; the masses of men, women and resources mobilized in a conflict that shook even the most remote ends of the planet; the ideological battle between totalitarianism and democracy, between fascism and communism, the passions and hatred that it aroused; the unimaginable horror and fanaticism of the Holocaust; geopolitical games; the repetition of World War I on an even more dire scale.
    The war was a gigantic melting pot of violence, power, and ideology that will leave an indelible scar on human history.
    This Diary of the Second World War has been able to cover all facets of the conflict and is a fundamentally empirical work, which narrates events as they occurred, rejecting value judgments, and therein lies its value: it is an insurmountable encyclopedia on war. Both as a reference textbook and as an audiobook, the World War II Diary represents a milestone in this field.
    This complete 73-hour series is available in audiobook, ebook and, as an audiovisual, on Prime.
    In this audiobook we offer you the day by day of the month of:January 1941
    The U.S. military detention center at Guantánamo Bay—known to the public as Gitmo—has been called the American Gulag, a scene of medieval horrors where innocent farmers and goat herders swept up in Afghanistan and Iraq have been sequestered, tortured, and abused for years on end without access to legal counsel or basic medical services.Gordon Cucullu, a retired army colonel, was so appalled by these reports that he decided to see for himself. In a series of visits he inspected every corner of the camp and interviewed dozens of personnel, from guards and interrogators to cooks and nurses. The result—coming just as the Obama administration wants to close the facility—is a riveting description of daily life for both prisoners and guards. Cucullu describes the six camps reserved for different levels of compliance, details the treatment of prisoners, and examines their experiences in detail, including the techniques used to interrogate them, the food they eat, their medical care, how they communicate with one another, and the many ingenious ways they contrive to assault and injure their guards.  While some prisoners were indeed treated harshly in the early days, when the hastily built camp was flooded with battlefield captures and fears ran high of another 9/11-style attack, Cucullu finds that these excesses were quickly corrected. Current treatment and oversight routines exceed the standards of any maximum-security prison in the world. Despite what the public has heard, these are not innocent goatherds but dedicated jihadists whose overriding goal—as they themselves candidly say—is to kill Americans. Should they now be released to return to the fight, perhaps on American soil? Read this book and decide for yourself.
