~~~~~ PG Excerpt ~~~~~
Brooke jerked her head up when her phone pinged. She fumbled for it looking at the time and groaned when she saw it was after nine thirty, another hour and a half without any hits
But she had one now!
“Hello, my luscious baby girl! Are you up for some company?”
“Why yes, I’d love someone to hang out with. How long would you like to visit?”
“How about we start at what two hours of your time would cost?”
Two hours? A guy could only go so many times. This was obviously going to be heavy on the girlfriend experience, and she was fine with that.
“$500.”
“I believe you’re selling yourself short, your time is valuable, kitten. How about we say a nice even $600?”
“Thank you! When do you want to come?”
“Hopefully shortly after I get there.” The text was followed by a cat emoji. “I loved the picture of you pouting. Can you be bratty for me?”
“I am a spoiled little princess and get mad when I don’t get my way.”
“I do love sexy little brat, you feel like being a good girl or a bad girl tonight?”
“I feel like being your girl.” Brooke smiled as she replied.
“My god, you’re perfect! What room?”
“215.”
“I’ll be there in a few minutes.”
“Can’t wait to see you, daddy!” Brooke included a lollipop emoji.
“Not daddy, baby girl, it’s mama.”
Brooke’s stomach fluttered.
“You’re a woman?”
“Last I checked, yes.”
“I’m sorry, I don’t see women.”
“Your ad says you do, sweetie.” A moment later she texted a screen shot of it.
She went to the section where the site provided a list of services where the providers would uncheck anything they wouldn't do.
“Crap,” Brooke breathed when she saw she’d left ‘will see women’ on there.
“I’m sorry. That was a mistake, I didn’t mean to waste your time.”
She jumped when the phone rang, and she saw it was the woman calling. She thought about not answering, but this mess was her fault, and she didn’t need to add being rude on top of it.
“Hi,” she answered softly.
“Hello, Brooke,” the woman’s tone was sultry and hinted at the sex she’d been offering her six hundred dollars for. “My name is Savannah.”
“I’m really sorry,” Brooke didn’t know what else to say. “I was in a hurry and not paying attention.”
“It happens, at least you didn’t leave Greek on there and don’t want it.” She laughed. “Now that’s awkward.”
“I guess,” Brooke did offer that service. She hadn’t gotten into it yet, but it was worth the extra hundred she charged.
“You don’t see women?”
“No, sorry, I don’t.”
“Don’t as in no interest or don’t as in you just don’t want to do it for money?”
“I’ve never been with a woman.”
“Really? Your telling me as hot as you are no girls so much as kissed you?”
“No.”
“Then try something new! I promise I’m a very good teacher,” she released a sensual purr into Brooke’s ear. “And what an honor to bring such a pretty kitty into the sisterhood.”
“Sorry, just not into it.”
“Are you into taking any man who pays into your mouth?”
“That’s crude and I need to…”
“Yes, sorry, that was rude, but the point is valid. They’re no one to you other than a client for a service you provide. Consider this another service you can offer."
Brooke caught herself thinking about it, as another provider once told her 'Flesh is flesh." could it be that simple?
    Outsiders have long viewed Scandinavia as special, starting with the ancient Greeks and their myths of Ultima Thule, a place "where the Sun goes to rest." Today, we admire Scandinavia for its universal welfare, equality, peacefulness, and untouched nature—not to mention its interior design, crime literature, and love of all things hygge.
    Yet Nordic history has its hardships and dark periods, too: pandemics, war, the expansionism of the Viking Age and the eighteenth century, alliances with Nazi Germany in World War II, and a eugenics movement in the twentieth century.
    In The Shortest History of Scandinavia, historian Mart Kuldkepp masterfully sketches the outlines of Scandinavia's rich history—from the first known peoples of the region, who followed the ice sheet north at the end of the last Ice Age, to the Scandinavians living in nations that are among the happiest in the world today.
    In this deeply insightful volume, Kuldkepp illuminates the concept of "Nordicness"—a hard-to-define quality that has nonetheless steered the region to respond to major challenges, actively shaping its history and exerting a considerable influence on European and global history in the process.
    Read by the author, Dr Sam Carr.'Empathetic, enlightening, deeply human' - Michael Harris, author of SolitudeAn intimate portrait of loneliness, All the Lonely People sees psychologist Dr Sam Carr collect hours of conversations with people young and old, including single parents, carers, teenagers and the bereaved – all shared over countless cups of tea.In stories of love and loss, of trauma and hope, told from care homes, living rooms, classrooms and kitchens, Carr discovers that while each of their stories is utterly unique, they are all born out of the same desire for human connection.As Carr interweaves these touching and powerful tales with his own personal narrative, he opens a window onto the inner lives of regular people – the forgotten, misplaced or misjudged – who all feel isolated in some way.Sparking a profound conversation about a universal emotion, which may simply be an inevitable part of life in an increasingly disjointed world, he questions what we can do to build stronger human relationships, and to be a part of something bigger than ourselves.
    "The Gaslighting Epidemic Series: From Personal Betrayal to Societal Deceit" is a compelling two-in-one volume that brings together the critical insights of John D. Kody's "The Gaslighting Trap: Understanding and Overcoming Emotional Abuse" and Michael Brooks' "The Gaslighting of America: How the Elite, the Authorities and Mainstream Media Have Conspired to Deceive the People." This series stands as a testament to the pervasive nature of gaslighting, spanning the intimate corridors of personal relationships to the broad avenues of societal influence.
    In the first part of the series, adapted from John D. Kody's work, readers are immersed in the personal impact of gaslighting in relationships. It navigates the emotional complexities of manipulation, unraveling how individuals are led to question their own reality under the influence of a manipulative partner. This section provides an in-depth analysis of the dynamics within intimate betrayals and offers practical strategies for identifying, confronting, and healing from these experiences.
    The second part, building upon Michael Brooks' insights, shifts the focus to the broader societal implications of gaslighting. It exposes how elites, authorities, and the media use psychological manipulation to craft a false reality, influencing public perception and eroding the foundations of society. This section critically examines the systemic use of gaslighting to manipulate and control public discourse, reshaping societal norms and values.
    Together, these two parts form a comprehensive exploration of gaslighting's impact, both in the intimate sphere of personal relationships and the expansive realm of societal structures. The series educates readers on the multifaceted nature of this manipulation and empowers them with the knowledge and tools necessary to recognize and resist it in all forms.
    How is the baton of experience passed from generation to generation? What is transmitted? Ardyn Halter explores the legacy of his late father Roman Halter's experiences of the Holocaust. What is received by the "Second Generation" and how can it be expressed in language or art? A journey to Rwanda to complete a commission to commemorate the Rwandan genocide, and a journey to Poland. The Fire and the Bonfire reveals a close - though also difficult - father-son relationship and explores genocide through art, which leads to unexpected discoveries.
    "This is a book that needs to be read more than once. Ardyn Halter has written about an agonizingly difficult subject with a painter's eye, a novelist's sense of pace and suspense, a philosophical mind - and he has done it superbly." - Hillel Halkin
    "...this is powerful. Raw and incredibly sad. Your clear eye and honesty had me gasping for breath at times." - Fergal Keane
    "A hugely eloquent, painfully honest and insightful text... A work of art to be savoured in its own right." - Monica Bohm-Duchen
