Synopsis

As the amoral art dealer heads to the Isle of Jersey, the author’s “comic invention and lacerating, politically incorrect humor are in brilliant form” (Publishers Weekly).

The Honorable Charlie Mortdecai—degenerate aristocrat and seasoned epicurean—has managed, somehow, to tarnish his already questionable reputation. Thanks to a few shady art deals, he’s been exiled from London. Together with his gadabout wife Johanna and his ex-con butler Jock, Mortdecai takes refuge in a country estate on the Channel Island of Jersey.

But what begins as a hedonistic interlude turns into a macabre manhunt. Through the haze of drunken locals and loathsome tourists, Charlie is out to expose a local rapist whose modus operandi bears a striking resemblance to that of a warlock from ancient British mythology known as “The Beast of Jersey.”

An “emotion-filled story of family dynamics and self-discovery . . . brimming with interesting characters” from the bestselling author of The Liverpool Trilogy (Booklist). The members of the eccentric Compton-Milnes household act more like strangers than family. Despite having multiple sclerosis, the elder matriarch, Hermione, controls the household and insists on a Tuesday morning family breakfast. Her son, Gus, a reclusive but brilliant professor, and daughter-in-law Lisa, a foolishly promiscuous cosmetic surgery addict, remain married, but without much of a relationship. Their two grown children, Ben and Harriet, are also under the same roof, yet miles apart from the rest of the family. Ben’s OCD keeps him from facing the world, while his sister Harriet sacrifices her own desires in order to take care of him.   Lisa’s series of poorly chosen affairs finally catches up to her when she accidentally becomes friends with her latest lover’s wife. When he turns on her, the family is forced to pull together for the very first time if they are to survive with any degree of sanity.

They' ve all been shockingly murdered in a manner both gruesome and appropriate to their literary style. Now, an extremely paranoid Stephen King is convinced that he will be the next victim. With great trepidation, King leaves his heavily barricaded fortress in Bangor, Maine, to discover who is knocking off his fellow authors. This hilarious satirical look at the world of publishing— by the author of The Cat Who Killed Lilian Jackson Braun— takes us from Venice to Paris to Swan' s Island and offers cameo appearances by actors Steve Martin and Gé rard Depardieu. The price: Planet Earth...

Voltarian Royal Officer Jettero Heller has heart, nerve and a quick mind on his side. His archenemy Soltan Gris has cunning, ruthlessness and a devious plan on his. But what neither of them has is money — and without that they may as well pack up and go back to Voltar. Because as every earthling knows — no pay, no play.

Gris, on the other hand, has found an unexpected source of income. His body. Turns out there are certain women - with a very perverse sense of humor - willing to pay to play with him.

Into this world of dirty money, dirty tricks, and dirty games - the wildest of wild cards is about to change everything. Countess Krak is back—and this voluptuous Voltarian, condemned murderess and love of Heller's life could prove to be the key player in coming to grips with a Fortune of Fear.
