The Queen of Steeplechase Park is the absolutely, positively, practically, almost-true story of infamous burlesque queen and magic meatball maker Belladonna Marie Donato.

Pregnant at fifteen after gleefully losing her virginity to pansexual neighborhood strongman Francis Anthony Mozzarelli, she is robbed of her baby by a pack of nefarious nuns and her embittered papa has her sterilized without her consent (legal in 1935). With the help of a besotted Francis and her top-secret meatball recipe, a devastated Bella embarks on a riotous quest through Depression-era Coney Island sideshows, the tawdry world of peek-a-boo striptease routines, a queer mob marriage, and a tasty collection of wisdom-filled recipes to find her lost child, herself, and maybe even true love. It all leads Bella back home, to the scene of her Original Sin, where she boldly faces matters of life and death, questions of forgiveness, and a holy mess only the healing properties of great Italian cooking can fix.

    Contains mature themes.

Like the characters in the movies Forrest Gump and Zelig, Adamson finds himself caught up in 1969's major historic moments including the Apollo 11 Moon landing, Woodstock, and the massive anti-war protests. Although written from a child's perspective, this is not a kids book but a series of funny, poignant, and sometimes disturbing stories about life in a late 19th-century Russian-Jewish village -- the world of my grandparents. Sholem Rabinovich (1859-1916) was born in Pereiaslav, Ukraine and later immigrated to New York. His short stories about Tevye and his daughters were freely adapted into the musical FIDDLER ON THE ROOF. Rabinovich's will contained the following injunction: "Let my name be recalled with laughter or not at all." His translator, Hannah Berman, was Irish of Lithuanian descent. Some of these stories may be too intense for younger children. (summary by Adrian Praetzellis)

I am William Lee: brute; liar, and graveside thief.
But you will know me by another name.
Heathcliff has left Wuthering Heights, and is travelling across the moors to Liverpool in search of his past.
Along the way, he saves Emily, the foul-mouthed daughter of a Highwayman, from a whipping, and the pair journey on together.
Roaming from graveyard to graveyard, making a living from Emily’s apparent ability to commune with the dead, the pair lie, cheat and scheme their way across the North of England.
And towards the terrible misdeeds – and untold riches – that will one day send Heathcliff home to Wuthering Heights.
    *****Praise for Michael Stewart:
‘A vivid, inventive narrative’ Sunday Times
‘Stewart’s descriptions of nature are superb’ Daily Mail
'Will leave you breathless’ Sunday Post
‘This book is a terrific tribute to the Brontë’s. It also beautifully shows how landscape grows in the imagination’ The Guardian
Stewart's ILL WILL is a top-notch example of historical and gothic romance, where the characters of Heathcliff and Emily traverse through the North of England, their path laden with graveyards and deceit. This literary fiction is a testament to the classics, as it leads us towards a future of untold riches and ominous undertakings.
For fans of S. P. Muir (The Evil in Time), Christopher Hardy (How Not to Drown a Cat), Jean Rhys (The Collected Short Stories), Ben Myers (Cuddy), and Maggie O'Farrell (Hamnet).
