Synopsis

THE BOOK THAT HAS THE GURUS ON THE RUN!

"The Final Order by Krishnakant Desai has been perhaps the most influential post-1977 publication in the Vaisnava world."- HH Bhakti Vikasa Swami, ISKCON guru

Who should initiate disciples in the Hare Krishna Movement? The spiritual purity and general prestige of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON, or the Hare Krishna Movement) has undergone a serious meltdown since the physical departure on November 14th, 1977 of its pure and saintly founder, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada. Most of the scandals that have rocked the Movement can be traced back to fairly blatant deviations from the instructions and pure standards given by Srila Prabhupada, the chief of which being his unauthorised displacement as the sole initiating (diksa) guru for ISKCON.

This particular deviation was highlighted in 1996 in the first edition of The Final Order which was sent to all ISKCON's leaders in a bid to help solve the Movement’s problems. No ISKCON leader could now credibly claim to be oblivious to the legal documents, personally signed by Srila Prabhupada, that clearly set out his intention to remain the sole initiating guru for the global spiritual movement he founded. It is these legal documents that constitute the core of The Final Order.Far from accepting the conclusions of The Final Order, ISKCON's Governing Body Commission (GBC) embarked on a systematic and sometimes brutal campaign of harassment, suppression and evasion. Surely it is no coincidence that most, if not all, of the members of the GBC are also initiating gurus? This book will help the reader get to grips with the plain facts underlying one of the most fascinating and serious religious controversies of the modern age.

"The GBC should all be the instructor gurus. I am the initiator guru, and you should be the instructor guru by teaching what I am teaching and doing what I am doing."- Srila Prabhupada Letter to Madhudvisa, 4/8/1975

“Yes, I am the spiritual master of this institution, and all the members of the Society, they're supposed to be my disciples. They follow the rules and regulations which I ask them to follow, and they are initiated by me spiritually.”- Srila Prabhupada Radio Interview, 12/3/1968

A classic work in political philosophy, intellectual history and economics, The Road to Serfdom has inspired and infuriated politicians and scholars for half a century. Originally published in 1944, it was seen as heretical for its passionate warning against the dangers of state control over the means of production. For Hayek, the collectivist idea of empowering government with increasing economic control would lead not to a utopia but to the horrors of Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy.

Salvador Dalí sublimated his madness without ever falling into it. Antonin Artaud, confronted with the traumas of childhood, oscillated all his life between an overflowing creation and accesses of madness. Niki de Saint Phalle, thanks to artistic expression, cured herself of a deep depression linked to the trauma of incest. Vincent van Gogh, in order to reach the summit of his art, put himself in danger to the point of committing suicide. Camille Claudel exhausted herself in her creation and ended up being interned and never creating again.
Based on the life and work of a dozen artists of genius, Thierry Delcourt tries to understand these artists’ transition from the summits of creation and the artistic abyss. Why do some people fall into madness while others go through life without a hitch? Why do some sick people find healing through creation? Why do many artists have an obsessive need to create relentlessly?
To these fascinating questions, this book offers striking answers about creation on the brink of the abyss.

The Chera dynasty, one of the three great Tamil dynasties of ancient South India, played a crucial role in shaping the political, economic, and cultural landscape of the region. Their rule, spanning centuries, witnessed the flourishing of trade, literature, and governance, laying the foundation for Kerala’s distinct identity. Emerging during the Sangam Age, the Cheras established themselves as a dominant force in Tamilakam, with their influence extending beyond the Western Ghats into the Indian Ocean trade networks.
The origins of the Cheras remain shrouded in legend and early Tamil literary references. Sangam literature, including works like the Pattinappalai and Akananuru, speaks of mighty Chera kings who ruled with valor and wisdom. The dynasty’s association with Vanji (also known as Karur) as their capital city highlights their strategic control over the fertile lands of present-day Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The geographical advantage of their kingdom, with access to the Arabian Sea on the west and the lush inland regions, enabled the Cheras to engage in extensive maritime trade.
The early rulers of the Chera dynasty established their power through military conquests and strategic alliances. One of the most celebrated kings was Uthiyan Cheralathan, considered the first known historical Chera ruler. He is mentioned as a patron of poets and a formidable leader who controlled trade routes. His successors, Nedum Cheralathan and Senguttuvan Chera, further expanded the empire. Senguttuvan, famously associated with the Silappadikaram, a great Tamil epic, is credited with the introduction of the Pattini cult, honoring Kannagi, a symbol of justice and womanhood. His military campaigns against northern kingdoms and his patronage of Tamil culture reinforced the Chera dynasty’s prestige.

Untangling the Sunday School Stories You Learned from the Biblical History You Haven't

    · Biblical archaeologist unearths the riches of the historical and cultural contexts of the Bible
    · Unveils God's Word as one glorious, world-changing story

When we first encounter the Bible, we are taught its stories--Adam and Eve, Moses and the Red Sea, David and Goliath, Jonah and the whale, and more. When a story lacks the details we crave, we fill in the blanks--with what we've seen in movies, read in books, and been told by our Sunday school teachers. But there's a better way to encounter the whole story of Scripture: uncovering and understanding the ancient world and the people who experienced biblical events.

In Stones Still Speak, Harvard-trained archaeologist and theologian Amanda Hope Haley scrapes back 2,000 years of misguided cultural interpretations to reveal God's Word in its historical, archaeological, and literary contexts. Far from a dry academic exercise, this process explains how our misunderstandings developed and revitalizes the Scripture you thought you knew, with the greater purpose of encouraging a more intentional, rigorous study of the Bible in your daily life.

The Evolutions of Social Media -...

Social media has transformed the way people connect, communicate, and share information. What started as simple online forums and chat rooms has evolved into a powerful ecosystem of platforms that shape global conversations, influence public opinion, and drive business strategies. The rise of social media can be traced through key technological advancements and shifting user behaviors that have continuously redefined digital interactions.
In the early days of the internet, online communities were primarily built around forums, message boards, and early blogging platforms. Websites like Usenet and bulletin board systems (BBS) allowed users to engage in discussions based on shared interests, but they lacked the real-time engagement that modern social media provides. As internet speeds improved and web design became more sophisticated, platforms such as Friendster and MySpace emerged in the early 2000s, marking the beginning of social networking as we know it. These sites introduced profile customization, digital friendships, and a sense of online identity that encouraged users to invest more time in their virtual presence.
The launch of Facebook in 2004 marked a major shift in how people engaged with social media. Unlike its predecessors, Facebook prioritized real-world connections and streamlined communication. Instead of anonymous interactions, users connected with friends, family, and colleagues in a structured and highly interactive digital space. This approach quickly gained popularity, and other platforms such as Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram followed, each introducing unique features that catered to different aspects of online interaction. Twitter revolutionized real-time communication with its microblogging format, LinkedIn redefined professional networking, and Instagram capitalized on the growing demand for visual content.
