Beschreibung

"RELAX-Techniques-for-a-Calmer-Mind" by Kevin B DiBacco presents a thoughtful, systematic approach to incorporating mindfulness into everyday life. The book is structured as a journey through twelve well-organized chapters that build upon each other to create a holistic understanding of mindfulness practices and their benefits. The book begins by establishing a foundation in the concept of mindfulness, addressing common misconceptions, and explaining the science behind stress and relaxation. This theoretical groundwork helps readers understand why mindfulness practices are effective, creating buy-in for the practical techniques introduced later. The middle chapters focus on specific mindfulness practices across various domains of life:- Creating dedicated mindful spaces- Breathing techniques for relaxation- Different meditation practices including focused attention and loving-kindness- Movement-based mindfulness through yoga and walking meditation- Mindful eating practices- Digital detoxification strategies- Gratitude cultivationWhat sets this book apart is its emphasis on practicality and integration. The later chapters address how to build consistent mindfulness routines, overcome challenges, find brief moments of mindfulness in busy days, and apply mindful approaches to travel. The book concludes with guidance on reflecting on one's mindfulness journey, adapting techniques to individual needs, and maintaining practice over time.Throughout the text, DiBacco employs accessible language and a gentle, encouraging tone. The writing balances theoretical knowledge with practical applications, making the content approachable for beginners while still offering depth for those with existing mindfulness experience. Each chapter builds logically from the previous one, creating a cohesive framework for understanding and implementing mindfulness practices.

Urban education refers to the educational systems and schools that serve students in densely populated cities, where a diverse range of cultures, languages, and socioeconomic backgrounds converge. These urban areas often face unique challenges, including overcrowded classrooms, insufficient resources, and disparities in student outcomes. While these issues are significant, urban schools also hold immense potential for transformation and innovation. With the right strategies, policies, and community involvement, urban education can evolve into a powerful force for opportunity and social mobility.
One of the primary challenges in urban education is the limited availability of resources. Schools in urban areas frequently struggle with underfunding, which affects the quality of teaching materials, facilities, and technology. Teachers are often stretched thin, tasked with managing large classes and meeting the diverse needs of students. The lack of adequate support services, such as school counselors or special education resources, exacerbates these issues. As a result, students in urban schools may not have access to the same educational opportunities as their peers in wealthier, suburban districts.
Compounding these challenges is the higher prevalence of poverty in urban communities. Many students in these areas come from low-income families, facing additional hardships outside of the classroom, such as food insecurity, unstable housing, and limited access to healthcare. These factors can have a significant impact on students' ability to learn and succeed academically. The achievement gap between urban students and those in more affluent areas is a direct consequence of these disparities, making it crucial for urban schools to address the root causes of poverty while providing effective academic support.

“Profound, vital and correct. Hirsch highlights the essence of our American being and the radical changes in education necessary to sustain that essence. Concerned citizens, teachers, and parents take note!  We ignore this book at our peril.""— Joel Klein, former Chancellor of New York City Public Schools
In this powerful manifesto, the bestselling author of Cultural Literacy addresses the failures of America’s early education system and its impact on our current national malaise, advocating for a shared knowledge curriculum students everywhere can be taught—an educational foundation that can help improve and strengthen America’s unity, identity, and democracy.

In How to Educate a Citizen, E.D. Hirsch continues the conversation he began thirty years ago with his classic bestseller Cultural Literacy, urging America’s public schools, particularly at the elementary level, to educate our children more effectively to help heal and preserve the nation. Since the 1960s, our schools have been relying on “child-centered learning.” History, geography, science, civics, and other essential knowledge have been dumbed down by vacuous learning “techniques” and “values-based” curricula; indoctrinated by graduate schools of education, administrators and educators have believed they are teaching reading and critical thinking skills. Yet these cannot be taught in the absence of strong content, Hirsch argues.
The consequence is a loss of shared knowledge that would enable us to work together, understand one another, and make coherent, informed decisions. A broken approach to school not only leaves our children under-prepared and erodes the American dream but also loosens the spiritual bonds and unity that hold the nation together. Drawing on early schoolmasters and educational reformers such as Noah Webster and Horace Mann, Hirsch charts the rise and fall of the American early education system and provides a blueprint for closing the national gap in knowledge, communications, and allegiance. Critical and compelling, How to Educate a Citizen galvanizes our schools to equip children with the power of shared knowledge.

We broke our new series on learning German down into different learning stages. Start with the "Lower Beginner" books followed by the "Beginner" and "Upper Beginner" books. Next, progress to the "Intermediate" series, then test and reinforce your knowledge with the "Conversations" series.
This audiobook is divided into units. While it provides different learning patterns and accommodates various needs, this audiobook focuses on helping you improve your ability to understand, speak, and memorise German. The sample will give you a taste of what you can look forward to.
In Unit 1 you will hear German decoded with each syllable spoken very slowly and clearly with repetition. Immediately before each sentence is spoken, you will hear the translation, so you will always understand what is being said.
Unit 2 focuses solely on increasing your listening ability, which will improve your abilities to engage in dialogue with a native German speaker. This chapter requires you to listen very carefully to nuances in the language.
By Unit 3 you will already notice progress in your abilities to speak and understand German. The spoken translation is followed by two repetitions in German at a completely natural speed. While you are learning to process naturally spoken German, Units 3 and 4 will help you memorise new vocabulary and full sentences.
In Unit 5 you can test yourself on how much you have learned. If you are having difficulties, we suggest you revisit the listening, speaking, or memorisation section of Units 1, 2 3 or 4, according to what you need more help with.
