David "Davy" Crockett (August 17, 1786 – March 6, 1836) was a celebrated 19th century American folk hero, frontiersman, soldier and politician. He is commonly referred to in popular culture by the epithet “King of the Wild Frontier.” He represented Tennessee in the U.S. House of Representatives, served in the Texas Revolution, and died at the Battle of the Alamo. This narrative attempts faithfully to record the influences under which David Crockett was reared and the incidents of his wild and wondrous life. It begins with his ancestors' immigration to the American wilderness, his adventures among the Indians, his political career in Tennessee and beyond, and ending with his heroic stand at the Alamo. Enjoy the late Dave Cash and his silky smooth voice, as he takes you on a trip down memory lane, where two fingers were raised to the establishment and history was made. Dave was part of the first real British Pirate Radio station, where he was treated like a pop star, dabbled with drugs, and lived a life far richer in experience than most. Once on board, Cash partnered with Kenny Everett for the Kenny & Cash Show, one of the the most successful of all pirate radio programmes. Listen as he sheds light on some of histories more fascinating and controversial times with his first-hand account of the events that inspired the 2009 film "The Boat That Rocked". Enjoy a story like no other from a man who pushed boundaries to their very limits, a true radio rebel. In more recent years Dave Cash worked for BBC Radio Kent, having had previous spells at Radio London, BBC Radio 1, Capital Radio, Country 1035 and PrimeTime Radio. He even found his way in TV and film, hosting a few episodes of the BBC TV series Top of the Pops and appearing as himself in the cult hit Quadrophenia among other films. Unfortunately, Cash died suddenly on 21 October 2016, aged 74, putting an end to the remarkable life, of a remarkable man.

Explore Thomas Merton’s encounter with Islam and its mystical tradition of Sufism with one of Catholicism’s great scholars.Thomas Merton (1915–1968) was a Trappist monk whose numerous books made the Christian spiritual classics accessible to modern audiences. A pioneer in interreligious dialogue, he developed a profound interest in the mystical traditions of the world’s major religions. In addition to his multiple relationships with non-Catholic Christians, he engaged in correspondence with Jewish, Muslim, Zen Buddhist, Taoist, and Hindu thinkers.  This captivating 6-lecture audio course focuses on Merton’s engagement with Islam. Your presenter is Professor Sidney Griffith (Ph.D., Catholic University of America), an expert in Muslim-Christian relations and a lifelong reader of Thomas Merton. Throughout the course, you will journey through the broad spectrum of Merton’s encounters with Muslims. You will look at Thomas Merton’s interest in Islamic mysticism, particularly in the traditions of Sufism. You will start by looking at his openness to “sharing the experience of the Divine light” with members of other religions. Then, as you explore Merton’s correspondence with scholars of Sufism and practicing Sufis, you will gain great insight into his spiritual mind.  Thomas Merton was a remarkable spiritual thinker, and his interactions with Muslims provide a model of interfaith dialogue today. A fascinating story of love and campaigning for equality and social justice.
When Katherine Zappone and Ann Louise Gilligan met it was love. It has been love through twenty-seven years together. But that love had consequences which brought this couple to the High Court, and beyond.
They met at Boston College. Returning to Ireland, their relationship had to be kept secret. Jobs were at stake, and elevation to positions of authority could be jeopardised.
What would happen if one of them died? Only a married couple received the support of the state in such circumstances.
Ireland rejected their Canadian marriage and they had to make a huge decision: to go public and fight or to stay quiet and suffer the consequences? Here they offer their deeply personal story – out loud for all to read.
    Foreword by Archbishop Desmond Tutu
