Beschreibung

Behind the masks of yesteryear’s Avenging Dervish are Barnabas and Dutch. Brothers. Twins, actually. Conjoined twins, in fact. And it’s hard to be a super-hero with your brother on your back.

“If you read this chronicle, it proves that I manage to outwit and successfully wink the hood of some very shifty fish in Uncle Sam’s considerable tributary.” So begins the kept-under-the-Stetson saga of reporter Lovester Baxter. Baxter chronicles the adventures of The Avenging Dervish. As Baxter tells it, the Dervish is not some run-of-the-mill crusader in a cape. Brothers Barnabas and Dutch each possess a set of whammies that, when they work together, let them dish comeuppance aplenty. And despite being opposites personality-wise, Barnabas and Dutch must unite to fight as they are conjoined twins, fused back-to-back like a couple of cockeyed bookends. But when they spin their marvels — Hot Socks! — The Avenging Dervish runs circles around the Nogoodniks in that fabled borough just off old Broadway where guys and dolls kibitz amid craps, cards, coppers and cut-throats as a matter of course — Runyonland!

Orcs used to be a fearsome fighting force, and the unleashing of the Horde brought terror to Humans, Elves, and Dwarves time and time again over the centuries. Nowadays, there aren't any more Ultimate Evils, Necromancers, or Dark Wizards left to hire the Horde. Paug Blumpkin is smart for an Orc (rather like saying he's smart for a box of hair). He's bored of training with the rest of the Horde for a war that will never come, and he's definitely tired of polishing his helmet. So he decides to set off in search of adventure, bringing along his cheerfully idiotic brother Milph, who has a regular habit of forgetting his pants. When they mug a Wizard while he's answering Nature's Call, they discover a treasure map (conveniently hidden in his Elven pornography), and thus begins their very own Quest Perilous. There's a powerful magical artifact halfway around the world, and Paug decides he's going to get the Tome of Unknowable Mysteries first. When he learns a celebrated Human hero is after the same booty, the race begins. With Milph using the stolen Wizard's wand (badly), a Barbarian warrior-woman named Petunia bringing the muscle, a lousy gambler named Hodak the Inconsequential (who happens to be fourteenth in line for the throne), and a Halfling thief named Gilpin with a chip on his shoulder, the companions head out into the great untamed wilderness, where death lurks behind every tree (and occasionally is the tree itself).

Do you know how to pronounce turbot? Is it lemon or lime in a gin and tonic? What do you wear to a barbecue? Is it ever okay to shop in Lidl?

Reggie has all the answers to help you climb the social ladder.

A beautifully spoken billionaire, Reggie is president of COCI (The Captains of Cork Industry) and owner of a 6.2 million euro mansion on the Blackrock Road. (In Cork, not the frankly shabby one they have up in Dublin.)

It's one social climbing nugget after another, laid out in 24 simple steps, so even you should be able to follow it. (No offence.)
