Synopsis

Since getting a job at Top Tier stables, Annie has had her mind set on just one thing: earning enough money to buy a horse of her own. When she reaches her savings goal, she bids on a horse at an auction and buys Poco, a four-year-old Buckskin mare that Annie couldn't love more. But someone is trying to sabotage Top Tier, and a terrible fire breaks out at the stable. Annie must summon all her courage to save her beloved horse as well as many others in an act of heroism she didn't know she was capable of doing.

“The story’s gentle surprises are sure to delight, as will the birds’ happy reunion.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review)   Toddlers and beginning readers will love joining in on the quest for a missing mother chicken in this sweet book by the beloved, award-winning author and illustrator that shows how appearances can be deceiving . . .   “Two little chicks play hide-and-seek with their mother. But though they find her easily enough on their first two tries, the game becomes more difficult; the shape of the comb on top of the hen’s head turns out to be very like the petals of a flowering tree, the fur of a growling dog, and the rays of the rising sun . . . There’s a nice balance of predictability and surprise in Gomi’s narrative that should appeal to preschoolers.” —The New York Times

“Your child will make you read this one over and over and over again. The best part is that your kids will learn life lessons without even knowing it!” —Hoda Kotb, co-anchor of the Today show   Catherine is an only child, but she’s never alone. She has Baby Doll, Lamb, Mr. Elephant, Lady Ladybug, and Bonnie Bunny to keep her giggling all afternoon with their stories and antics. While the tagalongs tease each other about their shortcomings, Catherine the Great, with her insightful, big brown eyes, sees the goodness in them all.   In the end, everyone has learned to share and be good to one another, and Catherine is ready to take on more adventures.   Filled with charming dialogue and plenty of silly situations, this makes for a wonderful read-aloud book.  “With each turn of the page you seem to share a kindred spirit with Catherine and her ‘tagalong crowd,’ and you almost secretly wish that she would invite you, too, to join in the tea party.” —Frank Davis, Naturally N’Awlins host, WWL-TV
