Beschreibung

This is my life journey - the hardest part; at 40 I was a single mother who had a kid to raise, huge debts, a life to live and I was jobless. There weren't any pre set formula to fall back upon. Reality hit harder than a truck would at the speed of 130 kilometers per hour.

What transpired in the subsequent 13 months have been recorded in this book. No economics class or commerce subject could have prepared one for such travails.

It was a time I discovered who were my true friends and what was my strength. It would be a lie if I say I had not contemplated suicide at the lowest point during the journey. I did but I decided to fight back with all I had - I had nothing left except the fighting spirit.

Hardest lessons learnt were about people who had basked in my suffering.  Greatest lesson learnt was that options are aplenty around us, it is up to us to grab what we can and pull ourselves out of the abyss.

I had emerged unscathed from that battle, wiser and most important of all - very shrewd.

I have recorded my 13 months' journey as a guide to those women who are in similar predicament. Believe me, there are ways to raise funds and continue your life, than to fall victim to anyone who is out to take a free ride on you!

Leadership under pressure: the personal account of the commander of the Royal Naval Task Group deployed to Libya in 2011.In April 2011, the newly created Royal Navy Response Force Task Group deployed to the Mediterranean to provide a range of military options in response to the Arab Spring. For the next six months the group planned and prepared for a range of potential operations including noncombatant evacuations from Libya, Yemen and Syria, maritime interdiction operations off the Libyan coast, and amphibious landings. On 3 June the group began launching attack helicopter strikes into Libya and in the nights that followed planned 47 and executed 22 strikes destroying a range of targets including: 54 vehicles, 2 rigid hull boats, 2 BM 21 rocket launchers, 4 main battle tanks, 1 zsu antiaircraft vehicle and 3 command and control nodes. The operation saw the first operational use of Apaches from the sea and the first embarkation of US Army combat search and rescue teams and Blackhawk helicopters in an RN warship. This is a personal account by the Group’s Commander, which brings to life the challenges of command – including authorizing strikes and mitigating risk to UK aircrew – in a complex and challenging environment. It reveals how closely the RN Group worked with its French counterpart, the support provided by the United States, together with the complexity of working alongside NATO and of simultaneously dealing with a range of UK authorities. This is a story of leadership under pressure and the remarkable professionalism of all involved and the bravery of Army aircrew. It was modern defense and joinery at its best – British Army and USAF helicopters operating from RN ships, supported by Fleet Air Arm aircraft and fixed wing jets as part of a largely air campaign.

On July 23, 1812, he launched his army across the border, despite the protestations of many of his Marshals. The Russian Campaign had begun, and it would turn out to be Napoleon’s biggest blunder. Russia’s great strategic depth already had a habit of swallowing armies, a fact many would-be conquerors learned the hard way. Napoleon, exceptional though he was in so many regards, proved that even military genius can do little in the face of the Russian winter and the resilience of its people.
From a purely military standpoint, much of the campaign seemed to be going in Napoleon’s favor since he met with little opposition as he pushed forwards into the interior with his customary lightning speed, but gradually this lack of engagements became a hindrance more than a help; Napoleon needed to bring the Russians to battle if he was to defeat them. On September 7, 1812, he must have thought his prayers had finally been answered, as the Russians had decided to stand and fight almost at the very gates of Moscow. Through his looking glass, Napoleon’s well-trained eye observed the weakness of his opponent’s defensive position. French and allied infantry advanced, anticipating that their Russian foes would again break as they had done two months earlier at Smolensk. The cavalry and Imperial Guard stood ready to complete the rout, this time preventing any organized withdrawal, and laying open an unopposed march to seize Moscow.
The Battle of Borodino, as it was later called, resulted in a combined casualty toll of over 75,000, a hideously long butcher’s bill that represented the bloodiest single day of the Napoleonic Wars. The Russian army retreated and Napoleon was able to occupy Moscow, hoping this would persuade the tsar to sue for peace. However, even as his advance guard pushed into the city, the retreating Russians put the capital to the torch. The Russian army’s retreat also ensured that it would live to fight another day, if necessary.

Jonah or Jonas, son of Amittai, is a prophet in the Hebrew Bible and the Quran, from Gath-hepher of the northern kingdom of Israel in about the 8th century BCE. Jonah is the central figure of the Book of Jonah, which details his reluctance in delivering God's judgement on the city of Nineveh, and then his subsequent, albeit begrudged, return to the divine mission after he is swallowed by a large sea creature.

Maximilien Robespierre was one of the most influential figures in the French Revolution, known for his uncompromising ideals and his central role in the Reign of Terror. His journey to power began in the late 18th century when he became involved in political life during the early stages of the Revolution. Robespierre’s rise was fueled by his belief in the revolutionary principles of liberty, equality, and fraternity, which he argued should be upheld at any cost, even if that meant the use of violence.
Born in 1758 in Arras, Robespierre came from a relatively humble background. He was educated at the College of Louis-le-Grand in Paris, where he developed an interest in law and politics. His education and his early career as a lawyer played a significant role in shaping his later political philosophy. He was known for his eloquence and his ability to persuade others, often advocating for social justice, the rights of the common people, and opposition to corruption. These early convictions aligned with the revolutionary ideals that emerged in the wake of the financial crisis and political instability that plagued France in the late 18th century.
In 1789, when the Estates-General convened, Robespierre became a representative of the Third Estate, which included the common people of France. He quickly gained attention for his passionate speeches advocating for reforms, such as universal suffrage and the abolition of the monarchy. His ideas resonated with many of the revolutionaries who sought to overturn the existing political system. Robespierre’s reputation grew as he joined the Jacobin Club, a political group that played a central role in shaping the revolutionary agenda. His alliance with the Jacobins and his tireless advocacy for the principles of equality and justice won him a position as a member of the Committee of Public Safety, the body responsible for overseeing the defense of the revolution.

A guide to authentic North Asian Shamanism, past and present

The word shamanism is frequently bandied about but rarely used accurately. Shamanologist Nicholas Breeze Wood coined the following definition: "A shaman is someone chose by the spirits [typically at/before birth] and who can go into a controlled and repeatable deliberate trance state, during which they: A) experience 'spirit flight,' where they go to meet the spirit worlds and meet spirits, who they either fight with, negotiate with, or trick, in order to create change in this physical world, or B) are often taken over/possessed by the spirits (normally ancestral shaman spirits, or local land spirits) while in this physical world—the spirits using the shaman's voice and body to heal, or give advice to members of the shaman's community. Without the spirits, and their blessing, a shaman can not exist or function. Without the trance state, it is not shamanism."

Author David Shi, for whom these are family traditions, explores the history and practice of shamanism. What is it? Where is it from? How does one become a shaman? Shi guides listeners through unfamiliar territory—the landscape of North Asia—and through what are largely hidden and unfamiliar traditions. Spirit Voices takes and in-depth look at three main cultural shamanic traditions: Turkic, Mongolic, and Tungus.
