Vicente Blasco Ibáñez was born in Valencia, Spain on 29th January 1867.

At university, he studied law and graduated in 1888 but never felt the urgency to practice - he was more interested in politics, journalism, literature and women.

Politically he was a militant Republican partisan and, in his youth, founded a newspaper, El Pueblo (The People). The newspaper was taken to court many times and he made many enemies. In one incident he was shot and almost killed. In 1896, Ibáñez was arrested and sentenced to a few months in prison.

Despite this colourful background he found time to write novels. His first published work was ‘La Araña Negra’ (The Black Spider) in 1892, a work that he later repudiated although at the time it was a useful vehicle for him to express his anti-clerical views.

In 1894, he published ‘Arroz y Tartana’ (Airs and Graces), about a late 19th Century widow in Valencia trying to keep up appearances in order to marry her daughters well.

Ibáñez’s next sequence of books studied rural life in the farmlands of Valencia and failed to gain much of an audience.

His writing now took on a new direction with its now familiar sensational and melodramatic themes in 1908 with ‘Sangre y Arena’ (Blood and Sand), which follows the career of Juan Gallardo from his poor beginnings as a child in Seville, to his rise to becoming a famous matador in Madrid

However, his greatest success was ‘Los Cuatro Jinetes del Apocalipsis (The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse) in 1916, which tells a tangled tale of the French and German sons-in-law of an Argentinian land-owner who find themselves fighting on opposite sides in the First World War. It was a literary and commercial sensation and became the best-selling book of 1919. It also propelled Rudolph Valentino to stardom in the 1921 film.

Ironically his fame in the English-speaking world has come not as a novelist but as the stories behind some of Hollywood’s greatest silent movies.

Vicente Blasco Ibáñez died in Menton, France on January 28th, 1928, the day before his 61st birthday.

A nonbinary writer on the eve of top surgery enters into a risky affair during the height of COVID. A lesbian couple enlists a close friend as a sperm donor, plying him with a potent rainbow-colored cocktail. A lonely office worker struggling with their gender identity chaperones their nephew to a trans YouTube convention. And in the depths of a Midwestern winter, a sex-addicted librarian relies on her pet ferrets to help resist a relapse at a wild college fair.

Capturing both the dark and lovable sides of the human experience, Rainbow Rainbow establishes debut author Lydia Conklin as a fearless new voice for their generation.

Finally reunited with Raul, but now separated from his twin brother, Devon, Brad has learned the hard way that magic is far from an exact science.

Not that his grades in actual science were all that stellar to begin with.

Now he has to find a way to get back into The Wolf's Mate with Raul, hope the threatening visions he's having of Constantine following him into the real world are just dreams rather than premonitions, and deal with a heroine who's furious Brad has usurped her role, all while fending off morning sickness.

That's just the price he has to pay for trading in his playbook for a grimoire, but Constantine is going to do whatever it takes to make sure Brad and Raul never reach their happily ever after.

    Contains mature themes.

TGIF used to mean happy hour drinks or curling up with delivery pizza. But when you live in an inn for paranormal beings, the end of the week often signals the beginning of chaos.

And this Friday? A banshee has invaded the basement, I've shifted from human to cat three times in one day (a personal record I never wanted to set), and my confidential files at SPA headquarters have mysteriously vanished.

Getting rid of the shrieking banshee is priority number one, and all we have to do is solve a local murder.

    Easy enough, right?

The suspect pool quickly narrows to four grieving family members, but it doesn't take long for the waters to muddy as secrets and resentments bubble to the surface.

Between vengeful spirits, family feuds, and my own mysterious past catching up with me, surviving until Monday is looking less likely by the hour.

Maybe I'd be better off as a full-time cat after all.
