Synopsis

Shadows Moved explores the surprising influence of shadows on history, science, and art. It examines how something as simple as a shadow has shaped our understanding of time, influenced artistic expression, and guided storytelling across cultures. The book argues that shadows, often overlooked, have played a crucial role in shaping our perception of the world.

The book delves into the history of sundials, demonstrating how these ancient timekeeping devices reflected the astronomical knowledge of their eras. It also analyzes shadow play, revealing its diverse expressions across cultures as entertainment, education, and social commentary. Furthermore, the book investigates the cognitive psychology behind shadow perception, explaining how our brains interpret shadows to construct a three-dimensional world.

Structured in three parts, the book first introduces the scientific principles of shadow formation and their historical context. It then details the evolution of sundials and other shadow-based timekeeping methods. Finally, it explores shadow play and its global variations.

By blending science, history, and art, Shadows Moved offers a unique perspective on the enduring relevance of shadows.

I recently saw several predictions by well-known seers of the future that there will be a huge natural disaster in June/July of 2025.
Whether a disaster from a comet crashing into the Earth, a huge volcanic eruption or earthquake or a nuclear war; the likelihood of humanity suffering a period of global cooling is that it will happen—and has already happened in the past.
Disasters could actually cause global cooling for months or years. In trying to lookup any books on how to individuals and society should handle global cooling I couldn’t find anything. So I decided to write a manual dealing with this issue.
    This manual has five parts:
    Part One-Understanding the Threat
    Part Two-Preparation and Prevention
    Part Three-Surviving the Freeze
    Part Four-Rebuilding in the ICE
    Part Five-Looking Forward
Historical examples of how mankind dealt with global cooling in the past are included as well as lots of advice on how to recognize this process happening to our world, and how to deal with the consequences.
Survival for both individuals and society, and how to plan for the future.
I hope this situation never happens in our lifetimes but this book might be an aid to survival in those circumstances.

We Jews wrongly believe we're immune to alcoholism and addiction—instead, individuals, families, and communities are suffering because of the stigmas surrounding addiction and recovery in the Jewish world.

"Is the 12 step program suitable for Jews? In this book Michael Levin shows with learning, sensitivity and wisdom why the answer is a resounding 'Yes.'" —Rabbi David Wolpe

"Shikkur is a goy." This Yiddish phrase means "Only Gentiles can be alcoholics," but it's not true. Jews suffer from alcoholism and addiction at the same rate as everyone else in society. Due to the stigma surrounding addiction in our community, people are dying unnecessarily . . . because they believe they can't get help. Jews and Booze attacks the stigmas surrounding addiction and recovery in our world.

'Teenage Head changed the face of music in this country. I would not be who I am today without their first record ... In 1979 they were the only band that mattered.’—Hugh Dillon

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, no Canadian band rocked harder, louder or to more hardcore fans than Hamilton, Ontario's own Teenage Head. Although usually lumped in the dubiously inevitable 'punk rock' category of the day, this high-Â?energy quartet Â?Â?consistingof four guys who'd known each other since high school Â?Â?were really only punk by association. In essence they were a full-Â?on, ballsÂ?-toÂ?-the-Â?wall, three-Â?chord, kick-Â?out-Â?the-Â?jams band that obliterated categories and labels with the sheer force of their sonic assault, and everywhere they played they converted the merely curious to the insanely devoted.

And they almost became world famous. Almost. This is their story, told in full and for the first time, and by those who lived to tell the tale.

Praise for Gods of the Hammer:

‘A riot of a good read on Teenage Head ... the writing is fast-paced and lively, told from the laudatory perspective of a frustrated fan trying to explain why such a great band never got its due.’

    —The Hamilton Spectator

‘I loved it! Wanted it to last forever! Geoff Pevere has done an ace portrait of all that isgreat and dirty in rock and roll.’—Bruce McDonald

‘Pevere's is an on-the-ground fan's account of how the band enamoured a country and how if just that one last, special piece fell into place – if they were managed better, if an American record deal came sooner, if guitarist Gord Lewis hadn't been laid up for half a year at their very peak by a back-breaking car accident – songs like "Picture My Face" and "Let's Shake" would be played before face-offs and stocked in jukeboxes from St. John's to San Francisco. The Head were always just a centimetre away from super-stardom. To a generation of hip music fans, they're as classic as The Cars, but instead of ubiquity, their story is a distinctly Canadian Almost Famous.’

    —Chart Attack

    Praise for Geoff Pevere:

‘After almost 30 years of writing about the movies, Geoff Pevere’s anti-establishment views are just as strong as ever, but now he wears them as comfortably as an old leather jacket. He has always been more interested in broadening people’s interests than in trying to narrow them. In an age with almost unlimited access to film, just one stream in an onrushing tide of media, this is daring. For the boy who once had to wait months to see Citizen Kane, however, it’s simply a gesture of generosity.’

The 6 Types of Working Genius -...

New York Times best-selling author Patrick Lencioni unveils a truly groundbreaking new model that will change the way we think about work and teams forever.

The 6 Types of Working Genius is the fastest way to help people identify the type of work that brings them joy and energy—and avoid work that leads to frustration and burnout.

Beyond the personal discovery and instant relief that the Working Genius provides, the model also gives teams a remarkably simple and practical framework for tapping into one another’s natural gifts, which increases productivity and reduces unnecessary judgment.

In classic Lencioni fashion, Pat brings his model to life in a page-turning fable that is as relatable as it is compelling. He tells the story of Bull Brooks, an entrepreneur, husband, and father, who sets out to solve his own frustration at
work and stumbles into a new way of thinking that changes the way he sees his work, his team, and even his marriage.

What sets this book—and the model behind it—apart from other tools and assessments is the speed at which it can be understood and applied, and the relevance it has to every kind of work in life, from running a company to launching a product to managing a family.
