Beschreibung

African Science challenges Eurocentric views by revealing the sophisticated scientific and technological innovations of ancient African civilizations. It highlights that surgical procedures, for example, were performed in Africa centuries before they became common in Europe, demonstrating advanced medical knowledge. Similarly, ancient African astronomers charted the stars with remarkable precision, illustrating their profound understanding of celestial mechanics. The book argues that these advancements significantly contributed to the global body of knowledge, arising from unique problem-solving approaches within specific African contexts.

The book systematically explores indigenous knowledge systems, African achievements in medicine (drawing from sources like the Ebers Papyrus), astronomy, and architecture. It examines the rise and fall of African kingdoms such as ancient Egypt and Great Zimbabwe, showcasing the social structures that fostered scientific inquiry. By interweaving archaeology, anthropology, and history, African Science challenges colonial biases and provides a more inclusive understanding of scientific progress, emphasizing the lasting legacy of African innovation.

An Original Audiobook Production by W. F. Howes, written and presented by Caryn Franklin and Professor Keon West, with special guests.

    •	How do news outlets choose which crimes to report on – and does it matter?
    •	What do Disney films teach us about who is good and who is dangerous?
    •	Can adverts really change how we think and behave?

Underpinning these questions looms the spectre of bias; the hidden force that frames our thinking and skews the facts. This provocative audio original will have you rethinking everything from pornography and pop music to children’s books and fashion.
Tackling the complex subject of bias head on, Skewed investigates the hidden messages we absorb from birth. Looking closely at what the research can tell us, Caryn Franklin and Professor Keon West explain how our inner worlds are shaped by false information, media trends, and the brain’s preference for patterns and stereotypes. Exploring biases around gender, sexuality, race, age and appearance, Caryn and Keon explain how bias impacts all of our lives.
Through conversations with a diverse range of voices - from cognitive psychologists to activists and entertainers – Caryn and Keon offer a vision for an alternative future; a world in which we recognise and manage bias, and one in which diversity and difference can truly flourish.
Guest interviews include campaigner and life coach Michelle Elman, author academic and drag artist Cheddar Gorgeous, creative director and campaigner Trevor Robinson, forensic psychologist Dr Dominic Willmott and many more.

Change your relationship with technology. Change your life.
Share. Post. Reply…Most of us have gotten so used to notifications and alerts, pings and rings, that even if we don't want to be on our phones so much, we don't know what to do about it. The constant flow of information affects our brains, relationships, and emotional well-being. We feel stuck, overwhelmed, overstimulated, and we want a way out.
Like many of us, podcaster and author Carlos Whittaker had lived for years in an always-on, always-connected world—and he felt more disconnected than ever from God, his community, and even himself. When Carlos Whittaker realized how many hours he was on his phone, he took extreme measures to see how unplugging could change his body and soul.
In Reconnected, Carlos shares the challenges, surprises, and profound insights of his self-imposed exile from technology, spending nearly two months screen-free at a monastery, an Amish farm, and at home. As you journey with Carlos through this life-changing experiment you will discover:how to retrain yourself to notice the world before you notice your texts;what technology does to your brain and what you can do about it;ways to prioritize in-person relationships even if you need screens for work or school;why turning down your phone's volume turns up God's voice in your life;the newfound joy of being bored, getting lost, and not having to Google every question that comes to your mind.

Blending wisdom from the past, practices of intentionality and community, and Whittaker's signature engaging communication style, Reconnected will inspire and equip you to reset your life in a tech-saturated world. It's time to take back control of your life from technology and recover the lost art of being human. You were made for more. This is how you start living again.

The Qabbalists conceive of the Supreme Deity as an Incomprehensible Principle to be discovered only through the process of eliminating, in order, all its cognizable attributes. That which remains--when every knowable thing has been removed--is AIN SOPH, the eternal state of Being. Although indefinable, the Absolute permeates all space. Abstract to the degree of inconceivability, AIN SOPH is the unconditioned state of all things. Substances, essences, and intelligences are manifested out of the inscrutability of AIN SOPH, but the Absolute itself is without substance, essence, or intelligence. AIN SOPH may be likened to a great field of rich earth out of which rises a myriad of plants, each different in color, formation, and fragrance, yet each with its roots in the same dark loam--which, however, is unlike any of the forms nurtured by it. The "plants" are universes, gods, and man, all nourished by AIN SOPH and all with their source in one definitionless essence; all with their spirits, souls, and bodies fashioned from this essence, and doomed, like the plant, to return to the black ground--AIN SOPH, the only Immortal--whence they came.
