Beschreibung

'AI-Focused Hardware' presents a comprehensive exploration of specialized hardware architectures driving modern artificial intelligence systems. The book masterfully bridges the gap between traditional computing limitations and the demanding requirements of AI applications by examining three crucial areas: neural processing units (NPUs), AI-optimized memory architectures, and quantum computing implementations for machine learning.Through a well-structured progression, the text begins with the historical evolution from general-purpose processors to specialized AI hardware, establishing a foundation for understanding current innovations. The book's unique value lies in its practical approach, offering detailed schematics and architecture diagrams that practitioners can directly implement.Notable insights include the crucial role of processing-in-memory systems in overcoming traditional memory bottlenecks and the practical applications of tensor processing units in modern AI workloads. The content maintains accessibility while delving into complex technical concepts, making it valuable for both hardware engineers and AI practitioners. Each section builds upon the previous, moving from fundamental NPU design principles through advanced memory hierarchies, and culminating in practical quantum computing applications. The inclusion of real-world implementation cases, performance metrics, and comparative analyses from major hardware manufacturers provides readers with concrete evidence supporting the book's central argument that purpose-built hardware architectures are essential for advancing AI capabilities.

The water is rising — and it’s not just the coasts that are changing. Entire nations are sinking, rivers are shifting course, and millions are already on the move. But amid the devastation, extraordinary stories of resilience are emerging.
After the Flood takes readers to the front lines of the planet’s most pressing crisis: the global struggle to live with water in an era of unstoppable change. From the engineers building floating cities in the Netherlands to the farmers in Bangladesh reinventing agriculture on flooded land, and the Pacific Islanders fighting to preserve their homelands from beneath the waves — this is a story of ingenuity, defiance, and hope.
Blending investigative reporting with deeply human storytelling, Alex Southwick reveals how rising seas are not only redrawing maps, but reshaping what it means to belong, to adapt, and to survive.
After the Flood is a haunting and inspiring portrait of a world transformed by water — and the people determined to rise with it.

This thought-provoking collection of original material, translated from Russian includes interviews with Dr. Buteyko covering the development of his ideas from 1962 to 1998 and his main CEOB (Conscious Elimination of Deep Breathing) manual. It is important because it provides insight into the power of his method when used by trained practitioners, especially in a clinical setting.
He saw breathing as a fundamental measurable parameter in the treatment of 150 common diseases and because of his disciplined scientific research he never allowed it to be considered simply an alternative asthma treatment' as it is often now perceived in the West. With trained practitioners and Breathing clinics it would result in a profound improvement in the health of millions of people suffering from many different conditions throughout the world.
Here is a summary of the main chapters:
    1. 1962 interview while he was Head of a functional Diagnostics laboratory within the Siberian branch of the USSR Academy of Science.
    2. 1982 interview covers the development of his theoretical ideas and practical work in further detail.
    3. Large practical guide (CEOB Breath Retraining Manual) showing his systematic approach to 'the Conscious Elimination of Deep Breathing' in sick patients in a clinical setting.
    4. 1997 Buteyko answers questions by callers on a public radio program.
    5. Interview with a Siberian newspaper in 1998 when he was 75 where he talks about his work and medical and spiritual perspective.
    6. Interview on Ukrainian Television in the late 1980s with a detailed restating of his work where he advocates for breathing retraining centers in Ukraine and Russia.
The book's approximate length is 35,000 words.

THE TORONTO STAR'S  "30 BOOKS WE CAN'T WAIT TO READ THIS SPRING"The updated edition of a Toronto favourite meanders around some of the city’s unique neighborhoods and considers what makes a city walkableWhat is the 'Toronto look'? Glass skyscrapers rise beside Victorian homes, and Brutalist apartment buildings often mark the edge of leafy ravines, creating a city of contrasts whose architectural look can only be defined by telling the story of how it came together and how it works, today, as an imperfect machine.Shawn Micallef has been examining Toronto’s streetscapes for decades. His psychogeographic reportages situate Toronto's buildings and streets in living, breathing detail, and tell us about the people who use them; the ways, intended or otherwise, that they are being used; and how they are evolving.
Stroll celebrates Toronto's details – some subtle, others grand – at the speed of walking and, in so doing, helps us to better get to know its many neighbourhoods, taking us from well-known spots like the CN Tower and Pearson Airport to the overlooked corners of Scarborough and all the way to the end of the Leslie Street Spit in Lake Ontario
"Shawn Micallef offers an alternative perspective on the shape of neighbourhoods with an updated edition of Stroll, which originally appeared fifteen years ago. His 'psychogeographic walking tours' take us through what he calls the Middle, Westish, Northish, Eastish, and Eastest areas of Toronto, showing us the known and sometimes obscure buildings and features that define Canada’s largest city." – Pamela Divinsky, Literary Review of Canada
"Shawn Micallef is the unofficial mayor of Toronto, the genial ambassador the city needs and deserves. As he strolls Toronto’s broad avenues and its little streets, he finds hidden pockets of delight – and weirdness, too. Join him and fall in love with the city again." – Liz Renzetti, author of Bury the Lead
"When I moved to Toronto in 2011, Stroll was the first book I added to my library and course reading lists. My students and I get lost in the PATH, sneak into lobbies, and visit the archives with this book as our guide. Micallef’s friendly voice invites us to slow down and notice not just a few landmark buildings but the city’s built fabric as a whole. This updated version offers our collective memory a much-needed affectionate yet critical view of recent changes to the city." – Erica Allen-Kim, Author of Building Little Saigon
"Stroll is a delightful and eccentric guidebook, full of clever writing, amusing stories and charming maps that will make you want to strap on your walking shoes and head into the streets of Toronto." – Carol Off, Author/Broadcaster"Shawn Micallef looks at the city in a way we all should more often – he sees it as a living book that is alive with stories just waiting to be told to the attentive observer. In Stroll, he gives us an introduction to just how interesting and surprisingly dramatic those stories are, and how exciting our city is when we hear them." – David Crombie, former mayor of Toronto"A smart and intimate guide to the city that makes you feel like an insider from start to finish." – Douglas CouplandThis new edition updates things in the city that have changed and includes several new walks.
