Synopsis

"Carthage Naval Structure" explores how Carthage, initially a Phoenician trading post, evolved into a dominant maritime power challenging Rome. The book examines the strategic pillars supporting Carthaginian naval supremacy: shipbuilding innovation, port infrastructure, and regional control. It reveals how Carthage systematically developed its naval capabilities through technological advancement and logistical preparedness, enabling it to maintain maritime trade networks and project power across the ancient Mediterranean.

The study of Carthaginian quinqueremes, for example, shows the scale of their shipbuilding. The book progresses from Carthage's maritime origins through detailed analyses of its shipbuilding techniques, strategic port designs like the double harbor of Carthage, and the application of its naval power in securing regional dominance.

Drawing from archaeological evidence and historical accounts, the book challenges simplistic views of Carthaginian military history by offering a nuanced perspective on their naval dominance. By examining these interconnected elements, the book offers a holistic understanding of Carthaginian seapower and its lasting impact on the Mediterranean world.

This famous memoir by John McCorkle is the best published account by a scout who “rode with Quantrill.”
John McCorkle was a young Missouri farmer of Southern sympathies. After serving briefly in the pro-Confederate Missouri State Guard, he became a prominent member of William Clarke Quantrill’s infamous guerrillas, who took advantage of the turmoil in the Missouri-Kansas borderland to prey on pro-Union people. McCorkle displayed an unflinchingly violent nature while he participated in raids and engagements including the massacres at Lawrence and Baxter Springs, Kansas, and Centralia, Missouri.
In 1865 he followed Quantrill into Kentucky, where the notorious leader was killed and his followers, McCorkle among them, surrendered and were paroled by Union authorities.
Early in this century, having returned to farming, McCorkle told his remarkable Civil War experiences to O. S. Barton, a lawyer, who wrote this book, first published in 1914.

We all have a typical image of Vikings, from the horns on their helmets to the beards and the clothes they wear. Their ships have a certain charm, and their reputation is that they were brutal, raw, and believed in multiple gods.
The Vikings traveled during the Mediterranean, North Africa, the Middle East, and The U.S.A. And Canada. That period is acknowledged as the Viking Age in parts of the countries where they robbed and settled, and the name "Viking" is also used to describe the population of the Scandinavian homelands as a whole. The early middle ages history of Scandinavia, the British Isles, France, Estonia, and Kievan Rus' was exceptionally impacted by the Vikings.
In this comprehensive guide, we will explore some of the details about the Viking history. What did they do? How did they treat their women? Where did they go to conquer other nations? These are some of the questions we will answer.

Many of the first artists in the West were assigned to exploration and geological parties, working as archivists and obedient to demands of cold accuracy. However, a few were driven by an imaginative mix of real events and fantastical visions to whet the appetite of Eastern consumers and preserve their own nostalgia on canvas. Among the artists who developed a passionate relationship with the West to one degree or another, two remain iconic in the modern day. Charles Marion Russell, a Missourian drawn to the Montana country, expressed a general empathy for the Native American tribes and the American cowboy. New Yorker Frederic Remington held the advantage in education and talents as a draftsman, but he did not lose himself so entirely to the western American experience. His paintings, sculptures, short stories, and novels are often centered on the military and its wars against the resident tribes. Remington, somewhat more cynical than Russell, was nevertheless a master of depicting violent action in fantastical but credible situations where life hung in the balance. He, too, lamented that the land of his youth’s fascination “had nearly vanished, even though his direct experience with that land and culture was not in the long run successful.
Esteemed for his depiction of “swift action and precise accuracy of detail,” Remington’s creative accounts of the 19th century’s last few decades fired the imaginations of Americans thousands of miles away from the frontier.
