Sinopse

Caesar Military Strategy examines how Julius Caesar, despite limited initial military experience, achieved remarkable military success and political influence through innovative tactics and strategic thinking. The book sheds light on his conquest of Gaul, detailing how Caesar adapted Roman military doctrines to specific battlefield conditions and managed resources effectively. A key aspect of Caesar’s strategy was his ability to integrate military innovation with political maneuvering, challenging simplistic narratives of Roman dominance. The book explores Caesar's adaptive military tactics, logistical prowess, and administrative policies, highlighting how these elements contributed to his victories and political ascent.

For example, Caesar’s bridge-building across the Rhine demonstrated his command of infrastructure and supply chains, vital for sustaining his campaigns. The analysis progresses systematically, starting with historical context and Caesar's early career, then examining his tactical innovations, logistical feats, and administrative policies in Gaul.

This study provides a balanced assessment of Caesar's military and administrative capabilities, avoiding romanticization while acknowledging his undeniable skill. By examining his strategies as interconnected components of a broader campaign, the book offers a fresh perspective suitable for both academic and general readers interested in military history and the enduring legacy of Roman military leadership.

The city of Heliopolis was one of ancient Egypt’s most important religious centers, the focus of the civilization’s solar cult, and a destination for pilgrims for nearly 3,000 years. It was at Heliopolis where Egyptian priests developed one of Egypt’s three major creation myths, which, like any aspect of a culture that survived for as long as Egypt’s did, evolved throughout the centuries. Heliopolis’ origins were quite humble though, and it does not appear that it was ever planned to be a great city. The city began as a small settlement in the late 4th millennium BC, but within a couple of hundred years it became the center of Egypt’s solar religion, due to several fortuitous circumstances.
Heliopolis’ proximity to the political capital of Memphis no doubt helped with its early growth, as did its patronage by some important early kings. By the Middle Kingdom (c. 2055–1650 BCE), Heliopolis was one of the most important religious centers in Egypt, and the most important kings saw it as essential to erect monuments in the city. As Egypt’s dynasties and kingdoms rose and fell, Heliopolis, the “City of the Sun,” kept shining, attracting numerous kings to leave their mark. Throughout the New Kingdom (1550–1069 BCE) and the Late Period (728–332 BCE), Heliopolis continued to attract kings, sometimes foreigners, who wanted to establish their legitimacy as pharaohs.
Although Heliopolis faded and eventually disappeared as an important religious center after the Greeks and Romans took control of Egypt, its memory remained. The name Heliopolis is actually Greek for “city of the sun,” while the Hebrews knew it as “On,” proving that its historical memory was (and remains) quite strong.

Haifa has become the most comfortable and sought‐after destination for LGBT asylum seekers from the West Bank and the Gaza Strip thanks to its status as a mixed city of Jews and Arabs. Sami fell in love with its streets, its Arab neighborhoods, its Eastern restaurants serving tasty and familiar food, the Haifa Bay as seen from the Independence Shield, and of course with the sea that was always there, like a promise that everything was still possible…
Nimaar was born as Sami in a small Palestinian village near Ramallah into a reality of violence. His abusive and estranged father, clashes with the Israeli Army, and persecution due to rumors about his sexual orientation turned his childhood into a living hell. He manages to find solace on the football field, but when his sexual identity is exposed and the danger to his life becomes clear, he has no choice but to flee to Israel, a place he had always seen as a cruel enemy. In Haifa, he tastes freedom for the first time and meets LGBT youth from the territories and Israel. Yet even there, he discovers that the past does not let him go and continues to haunt him.
"Korak'ah" is a stirring and heartfelt novel about loneliness, survival, and courage, and about the relentless pursuit of freedom and a safe haven.
