  Duino Elegies

  We have a marvelous, almost legendary image of the circumstances in which the composition of this great poem began. Rainer Maria Rilke was staying at Duino Castle, on a rocky headland of the Adriatic Sea near Trieste. 
  One morning, he walked out onto the battlements and climbed down to where the cliffs dropped sharply to the sea. From out of the fierce wind, Rilke seemed to hear a voice: Wer, wenn ich schriee, horte mich denn aus der Engel Ordnungen? (If I cried out, who would hear me up there, among the angelic orders?). 
  He wrote these words, the opening of the first Duino Elegy, in his notebook, then went inside to continue what was to be his major opus—completely only after another ten, tormented years of effort—and one of the literary masterpieces of the century.  
  Duino Elegies speaks in a voice that is both intimate and majestic on the mysteries of human life and our attempt, in the words of the translator David Young, “to use our self-consciousness to some advantage: to transcend, through art and the imagination, our self-deception and our fear.”

  The Story of a Man Who Collapsed Into His Notebook is about departures, childhood, the end of a relationship and the vanishing possibility in today’s world of fleeing to a better place. Written in the first person, each chapter a single sentence, the novel is an internal soliloquy of self-examination, an excavation of a life punctuated by upheaval and loss, hope and disillusionment, ambition and failure. The reader joins the narrator on his journey, both on the train and in his mind—from disjointed memories triggered by his departure from home, through attempts to put his relationships and experiences in some kind of order to find meaning in them and perhaps assign blame, to confronting his most painful memories—finally arriving with him at his destination with a sense of clarity and the possibility of a new beginning.

  South Sanford only has one point of entry and one point of exit... 
  Trapped inside of South Sanford are poverty, corruption, media lies, and a human trafficking ring the city who live there are blamed for yet victims of. Nevertheless, ebony bombshell Shatima Thomas feels she's been led there by her spiritual guides to unite with the family she was separated from after her father was murdered by the police. In five years, all she's been met with are the desires of men and crooked cops who want to use her to get them locked up. Men are the last thing on her mind. She's too busy trying to protect her son from the abusive ex who got her pregnant and has been stalking her since. As he steps out of the shadows, she fears he has connections to her city's dark circumstances that she may not be able to shield her son from alone. 
  For Rahshaan Bailey, life is just something to do until he dies. Known on the streets as "Banger," his only goals are to find the son who was taken from him, and to get the pretty girl in his building to give him a chance. When he finds out he has a connection to her that goes beyond the lust he feels for the ebony bombshell, he makes it his life's mission to protect her and her son from whatever she's up against.
