Beschreibung

John Dewey (October 20, 1859 – June 1, 1952) was an American philosopher, psychologist, and educational reformer. He was one of the most prominent American scholars in the first half of the twentieth century.

The School and Society: Being Three Lectures (1899) was John Dewey's first published work of length on education. A highly influential publication in its own right it would also lay the foundation for his later work. In the lectures included in the initial publication, Dewey proposes a psychological, social, and political framework for progressive education. Notably, this includes collaborative practical experimentation as the central element of school work. He argues that the progressive approach is both an inevitable product of the Industrial Revolution and a natural fit with the psychology of children.

This insider assessment of American military involvement in Syria offers “a fascinating and down-to-earth look at the war against [ISIS]” (Military Heritage Magazine).

The US military campaign in alliance with Kurdish forces in Syria remains a rare success story in the age of the War on Terror. Considering the military victory, the civilian government that followed the fighting, the light military footprint and the strong link to Kurdish partners, the intervention against ISIS in Syria is widely regarded as the nation’s most successful campaign since World War II.

In this volume, three authors who participated directly in the conflict offer a rare ground-level view of how it turned into a just war. Between the three of them, they participated in all the large Kurdish operations against the Islamic State between late 2014 and mid-2016. They endured muddy archaic trench warfare, witnessed the first waves of decisive US and British airstrikes against ISIS, and experienced the impact America had on the battlefield.

Later, when American, British and French Special Forces were deployed at the front lines, the authors worked closely with those teams, evacuating hundreds of wounded from the battlefield together. Based on their unique insights, they analyses America’s war in Syria, identifying its distinct phases from the secretive build up to the ultimate destruction of the ISIS Caliphate.

    Reframing Our Impact on Humanity

Are you finding it difficult to positively engage with people who view the world differently than you do?

Do you feel the heaviness of our societal and political divides?

Have you seen evidence of the erosion of humanity?

The important work of human and cultural understanding has been nested in thorny political agendas that often don’t invite healthy exchange. Rather than feed into the political divide, Dr. Kyle Reyes presents an approach to understanding differences that prioritizes humanity.

The framework and structure of this book are born from the belief in lens development—the deliberate effort to see things anew—because when we see things anew, a change in our behavior follows. Humanity requires work unique to the individual and the collective, and Dr. Reyes introduces a new framework that invites us to improve how we show up in the world and engage with others.

Personal growth and transformation come from honest reflection and self-analysis. In Lenses of Humanity, Dr. Reyes illustrates how we can improve and develop more human understanding, embrace humane practices, and find deeper connections across differences so we can be more deliberate in living our lives with greater humanity.
