This book is all about the fictional country called Utopia. It is a country with an ‘ideal’ form of communism, in which everything really does belong to everybody, everyone does the work they want to, and everyone is alright with that. This country uses gold for chamber pots and prison chains, pearls and diamonds for children’s playthings, and requires that a man and a woman see each other exactly as they are, naked, before getting married. This book gave the word 'utopia' the meaning of a perfect society, while the Greek word actually means ‘no place’. Enjoy listening to this story about a country that really is too good to be true. (Summary by Jenilee.)This is the 17th century translation by Gilbert Burnet, edited in the 19th century by Henry Morley.

Whether you remember them or not, dreams are a normal part of sleep. Everyone dreams for about two hours per night, and dreams can occur during any stage of sleep, although they're most vivid during the REM phase. Suppose you've ever woken up from a happy dream feeling relaxed and rested or a scary one feeling on edge. In that case, you might have wondered whether the content of your shut-eye reveries can make a difference in your overall sleep quality.Dream content often relates back to what's happening in your waking life. If you're experiencing low stress and plenty of satisfaction in your day-to-day life, you may have more positive dreams. By contrast, if you're depressed or anxious during the day, you may have more unpleasant dreams and compromised sleep quality at night. The good news is that while you cannot control your dreams directly, you can work on improving your state of mind during the day. This book investigates theories concerning the function of dreams and dreams, starting with Freud's contributions to the present day. Several ideas within psychodynamic, evolutionary, and neurocognitive perspectives are presented and discussed in light of relevant empirical research. These include theories that postulate that the function of dreaming is to guard sleep and approaches which propose that dreaming poses an adaptive advantage either by allowing for the simulation and rehearsal of threat avoidance behaviors, practicing social skills, solving emotional or intellectual problems, or aids us in the consolidation of memories.

Though people frequently use mobile technologies for news consumption, evidence from several fields shows that smaller screens and slower connection speeds pose major limitations for meaningful reading. In News and Democratic Citizens in the Mobile Era, Johanna Dunaway and Kathleen Searles demonstrate the effects of mobile devices on news attention, engagement, and recall, and identify a key cognitive mechanism underlying these effects: cognitive effort. They advance a theory that is both old and new: the costs of information-seeking curb participatory behaviors unless the benefits outweigh them. For news consumers in the mobile era, for example, mobile devices increase the time, economic, and cognitive costs associated with information-seeking. Only for a small few do the benefits of attending to the news on mobile devices outweigh the costs.

Dunaway and Searles argue that attention, engagement, and recall suffer when people consume news on mobile devices. They then investigate the implications of these effects for the news industry and for an informed democratic citizenry. Drawing on both laboratory and real-world studies, Dunaway and Searles bring the psychophysiology of news consumption to bear on the question of what we could lose in an information environment characterized by a dramatic shift in reliance on mobile devices.
