They need to fund a revolt against the Aquino government and a resourceful and gutsy team to engineer it. And what a team it is: Booth Stallings, a terrorism expert, is the only man the rebel leader trusts as a liaison; Georgia Blue is a colorful, statuesque female bodyguard; " Otherguy" Overby— so called for his skill in making sure whenever he's in trouble, that the other guy did it— is their point man; and for the sake of local expertise, is Artie Wu— the illegitimate son of the illegitimate daughter of the Boy Emperor of China— and his slick, often explosive partner Quincy Durant. None of them are very interested in the political power struggle, but five million dollars? That's another story!

"The House of the Vampire" by George Sylvester Viereck is a pioneering work of vampire fiction that blends psychological intrigue with supernatural horror. The story follows Reginald Clarke, a charismatic yet sinister intellectual who preys on the creative energy and vitality of those around him. As his newest protégé becomes entangled in his dark world, themes of exploitation, obsession, and moral ambiguity come to the fore. Viereck reimagines the vampire mythos as a metaphor for emotional and artistic manipulation, offering a chilling exploration of human vulnerability. With its atmospheric prose and philosophical undertones, this novella stands as an innovative precursor to modern vampire tales, blending gothic suspense with introspective depth.

Arthurian legends are reborn in this upbeat queer urban fantasy with a mystery at its heart

The knights of the round table are alive in Vancouver, but when one winds up dead, it’s clear the familiar stories have taken a left turn. Hildie, a Valkyrie and the investigator assigned to the case, wants to find the killer — and maybe figure her life out while she’s at it. On her short list of suspects is Wayne, an autistic college student and the reincarnation of Sir Gawain, who these days is just trying to survive in a world that wasn’t made for him. After finding himself at the scene of the crime, Wayne is pulled deeper into his medieval family history while trying to navigate a new relationship with the dean’s charming assistant, Bert — who also happens to be a prime murder suspect. To figure out the truth, Wayne and Hildie have to connect with dangerous forces: fallen knights, tricky runesmiths, the Wyrd Sisters of Gastown. And a hungry beast that stalks Wayne’s dreams.

The Winter Knight is a propulsive urban fairy tale and detective story with queer and trans heroes that asks what it means to be a myth, who gets to star in these tales, and ultimately, how we make our stories our own.
