  This book is dedicated to the study of the Mexican nation, providing an overview of its two-hundred-year evolution, and particularly analyzing its contemporary profile, which is characterized by unprecedented social reconfiguration sustained by Mexicans residing abroad. As we will show throughout this book´s chapters, the Mexican nation has over the past two centuries followed a complex, sinuous trajectory, conflictive at many points, which step by step built the nation as we know it today, a nation that has not by any means exhausted its vitality or its impetus for continuing to evolve.From now on, the Mexican nation cannot be understood solely on the basis of the population residing within its borders. It must be recognized comprehensively, considering, simultaneously and in equal conditions, people living abroad who hold Mexican nationality. The path ahead is extraordinarily complex, without a doubt. Taking into account its social composition, the 21st century Mexican nation is based and reproduces itself simultaneously within and outside of the territory; therein lies its transterritorial nature.The author is a professor in the UNAM University Program in Development Studies. He has been president of the El Colegio de la Frontera Norte and Commissioner for the National Migration Institute. He is a member of the National System of Researchers and has published widely on topics of migration, northern and southern border studies, regional political issues and modernization of local governments.

  Gaius Marius was one of the most influential military commanders and statesmen of the late Roman Republic. Born into a well-off, provincial Italian family in Arpinum, Marius rose from relatively humble beginnings to become a key figure in Rome’s transformation from a republic to an empire. Known for his military prowess and political savvy, Marius served as consul an unprecedented seven times, a record that set him apart from other Roman leaders. 
  His career began in earnest during the Siege of Numantia in 134 BC, where he gained valuable military experience under the command of Scipio Aemilianus. Marius was not born into the traditional aristocracy of Rome but quickly ascended through the ranks of Roman politics. In 119 BC, he was elected as tribune of the plebs, where he passed significant legislation that aimed to curb the influence of the aristocracy in Roman elections. His political career continued to build momentum as he was elected praetor in 115 BC and later became the governor of Further Spain, where he fought against bandit forces. Marius’s personal life also intertwined with the leading families of Rome—he married Julia, the aunt of the future dictator Julius Caesar, cementing ties with one of Rome’s most powerful clans. 
  Marius’s most famous military achievements came in the course of the Jugurthine War in Numidia, which he brought to a successful conclusion in 107 BC. That same year, he was appointed to command Roman forces in the war against the Germanic tribes, the Cimbri and Teutones, who threatened Rome’s existence. He was elected consul for the second time in 104 BC, a post he would hold consecutively for five years. His victories at the battles of Aqua Sextiae in 102 BC and Vercellae in 101 BC cemented his reputation as one of Rome’s greatest military leaders, and he was hailed as the “third founder of Rome,” a title that reflected his role in securing the republic’s future.

  Seamus Cashman comes from the village of Conna in County Cork. Educated att the local primary school, where his father was 'The Master', and at St. Colman's College, Fermoy, he also studied for the priesthood at Maynooth College but left after three years. 
  Having obtained a higher diploma in edication at University College, Cork, he spent two 'glorious' years in the mountains of southern Tanzania learning and teaching. He subsequently taught at St. Colman's, Fermoy before joining the newly established academic publishing house, Irish University Press in Dublin. When it closed seven years later, there was a period of unemployment before he set ip his own publishing house, Wolfhound Press. He lives in Portmarnock, County Dublin where he is married with three children. 
  The poems in this collection are new and old, and in essence are "attempts to delve into those personal and race memories that from time to time disturb our complacency, or that reflect some of the pleasure there is in remembering one's moments of wisdom amidst the decades of foolishness."
