Synopsis

Kai Jaina: A World Between is the captivating memoir of Joe Banivanua Mar, whose life journey spans a vibrant tapestry of cultures, continents, and defining moments. Born in a humble village in Fiji, Joe's story begins with the innocence of childhood curiosity, evolves through the trials of education and the challenges of finding his identity, and reaches into the corridors of corporate power and global diplomacy.
The memoir traces his path from an island boyhood marked by barefoot adventures and village traditions, through academic triumphs and a pioneering corporate career. Along the way, Joe grapples with the complexities of belonging, balancing the rich heritage of his Fijian and Chinese ancestry while navigating the political turmoil of his homeland during Fiji's coups. Through resilience, humour, and profound introspection, he reveals how these experiences shaped his values, choices, and unwavering commitment to family and community.
Peppered with anecdotes that blend humour, poignancy, and insight, Kai Jaina is both deeply personal and universally relatable. It is a story of transformation, where adversity becomes a springboard for growth, and identity is not confined by borders but enriched by them.
Written with the warmth and charm of a fireside conversation, this memoir offers readers an inspiring tale of courage, reinvention, and the triumph of the human spirit. Whether reflecting on a cricket match in a remote village, navigating corporate boardrooms, or witnessing history unfold, Joe invites readers to walk beside him through a life that bridges worlds-always guided by purpose and heart.

Off the California coast, sits a small town split by the Pacific Coast Highway and in this town actually stood a salmon colored Victorian home where a not so young couple first learned how to trust.
This was my second marriage. I was in my forties with a divorce under my belt, a job I hated, and then this woman comes into my life making games of my fears. She came from a world I had never known, one that wasn’t so cruel and dangerous.
We married and travelled our little corner of the world together just before the 2008 recession hit, causing a career I thought I had built for myself to crumble just as a dream I had always denied became my only option.
And I think the only thing that held us together, that held me together during that difficult time was trust. Trust isn’t something you see too much of anymore. It’s been replaced by confirmation, notarization, and security codes. But, without trust, I would never have even met Vicky, she and I would never have been wed, and we would never have made it to Cambria.
Worse still, without trust we never would have lived in that big, pink, Victorian home on the California coast, travelled back to the 1960s, sailed a living room east of the Pacific, made friends with a golden retriever, or spoke with a cow.
It was from out of all of this but also for all of this that I recorded my third autobiographical monologue: Cambria.
All because two people fell in love.

12 Rules for Life became a #1 National & International Bestseller for a simple reason…
(Please Note: This is a SUMMARY of Jordan B Peterson’s, 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos)
Dr. Peterson unearths archetypal principles that shape our lives. He first observes that Order and Chaos are the two primordial forces of the Cosmos. Chaos is the realm of limitless possibilities, unsuitable for life. Order, on the other hand, is the world of rules, predictability, explanations, science, and conformity.
In the 12 Rules for Life, Dr. Peterson offers a roadmap to navigate these polar forces. The antidote to chaos is not merely order – it comes down to understanding the subtleties of life, realizing that virtue lies in the balance of the two extremes, and developing your own skills at the game.
Each Rule for Life will challenge you to examine your own approach to life and answer some tough questions about why you're living the way you do. It is only by transcending our own limitations that life becomes meaningful and rewarding.
Who will benefit from this book?
Whether you are an over-achiever burning through life, an under-achiever with perpetual overwhelm, or an intellectual seeking deeper truths of human nature, this audiobook is for you.
The 12 Rules cover a broad spectrum where you will find advice on how to manage your thoughts and emotions, how to thrive, how to get along with others, and how to find a greater sense of meaning in life.

In August of 1985, a drunk driver torpedoed through his red light and blasted into my smaller mini truck. Instantly I fell comatose for nine weeks, but the real story is in my tenacity to overcome obstacles in my life that were not there before.
As an athlete through school, I succumbed to a life far different than the playing field. Faced with difficulties that were taken for granted, suddenly my world became a battlefield just to survive. I take the reader on a voyage into the unknown disabled community, where I candidly express my emotions. The accident left me vulnerable, which allowed my father in close. We were both too stubborn to show weakness and that kept us apart.
My hopes are to share my story and inspire those who are injured everyday, whether it is doctors & nurses or families & friends of those who receive care. I take the reader on a journey where hopefully you can find comfort in one person's survival.

To the world, he was Dr. Sacks, the brilliant neurologist behind bestselling books like Musicophilia and The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat. To professor Susan Barry, he became Dear Oliver—her mentor, friend, and confidant over the course of their ten-year correspondence.

It begins with a letter that Sue almost doesn't send. Sue's unheard-of case history—as a "stereoblind" patient who acquired 3D vision in adulthood—so fascinates Dr. Sacks that he immediately asks to visit her. As "Stereo Sue," she becomes the subject of one of his indelible New Yorker pieces—and, as a fellow neuroscientist, his sounding board for every kind of intellectual inquiry.

Their shared passions spark a friendship that buoys both of them through life's crests and falls: as Sue becomes an author, as she supports her father in his decline, and as Oliver becomes a patient himself—battling cancer that robs him of his own vision.

Dr. Sacks's letters to Sue offer listeners an unprecedented glimpse of the man himself—from his compassion and insight to his love of the periodic table. Throughout Dear Oliver, we are reminded that true friends help each other see the world a little differently.
