Sinossi

João Calazans Filho, Brazilian author, invites the reader to embark on a reflective and profound journey in his most recent book, We, HUMANS….  In this work, the writer, native to the Brazilian state of Bahia, talks about universal topics that touch directly at the heart of the human experience, bringing light to essential aspects of existence and challenging the reader to look at the world with new eyes.
In a provocative prose that mixes philosophic insights with an accessible and involving language, Calazans Filho crosses many contexts of life: politics, philosophy, life, self-knowledge, loneliness, and the search for life quality. Each page is a careful provocation, an invitation to reflect about the values that mold our society and the cast we have on it.
Exploring the complexities of self-knowledge, the writer offers a sensible vision about loneliness as a space of growing, and not of isolation. In his reflections about politics, he presents a critical view, but full of hope, for constructing a fairer and more ethical future. In philosophy and in the search for life quality, he finds out the gist of his message: life is an art that needs to be constantly revised, improved, and celebrated.
With a sharp look and transforming everyday experiences into timeless lessons, We, HUMANS… transcends a book. It is a direct dialogue between he reader and the writer, a trade that enriches and inspires.
This work is more than an invitation to reflection: it is a calling to live in a more conscious, authentic, and full way. Calazans Filho gives us, in each line, a singular vision, capable of resonating with the readers from all origins and ages.
Prepare yourself to rediscover life through João Calazans Filho's view. We, HUMANS… is not a regular book, but a partner in the search for what is the real meaning of life.

Communication as such is difficult. Of course, it is more difficult between lovers. But first you have to understand the general difficulty of communication. Each mind has been conditioned by different parents, different teachers, different priests, and different politicians. It is a different world in itself. And when two minds try to communicate, as far as the ordinary mundane things are concerned, there is no difficulty. But the moment they start moving beyond things into the world of concepts, communication starts becoming more and more difficult.

The voice in your head is relentless.

"You're not good enough.""You should have done better.""Everyone else has it figured out but you."

For many people, this inner critic becomes the loudest voice in their lives—questioning every decision, minimizing every success, and turning even small mistakes into proof of failure.

But the inner critic isn’t random, and it isn’t a sign that something is wrong with you.

    It’s a learned psychological pattern.

In Stop Negative Self-Talk: Why Your Inner Critic Won't Shut Up, Rowan E. Sages explores where this voice comes from, why it developed, and what it is actually trying to protect you from.

Through clear psychological insight and compassionate reflection, you’ll learn:

    • Why the inner critic develops in the first place
    • How criticism from early environments becomes internalized
    • Why high-achieving and thoughtful people often experience the loudest self-criticism
    • The hidden psychological functions the inner critic serves
    • The real costs of living under constant self-attack

Most importantly, this audiobook helps you see the pattern clearly—because real change begins with understanding.

This is Book 1 of the Stop Negative Self-Talk series.

Book 1 focuses on understanding the inner critic and the psychological patterns behind it.
Book 2, The Practice of Self-Compassionate Action, provides practical tools for responding to that voice in everyday life.

If you’ve ever felt trapped in cycles of self-criticism, doubt, or shame, this audiobook will help you understand why that voice exists—and why it doesn’t have to control your life.

Disability and Political Representation explores how disabled people experience the various stages and aspects of the representation process, drawing upon extensive empirical research and a variety of qualitative and quantitative data. It discusses why increasing the number of disabled politicians matters, not only as a matter of justice and equality but also to better represent the issues and interests of importance to disabled people.

Evans and Reher identify a variety of ableist barriers that prevent disabled people from fully participating in the political process, from disenfranchisement and inaccessible polling stations to prejudice within parties and a lack of financial support for candidates who require adjustments. The work shows that while the preferences of disabled citizens are currently under-represented in parliament, disabled representatives often draw on their lived experience to advocate for their interests. The concept of experiential representation is developed to help scholars and practitioners better navigate the concept of political representation, specifically as it relates to disability.

    Arab Sieges of Constantinople...

For nearly a thousand years, the Byzantine Empire protected Europe from Islamic powers, allowing it to pursue its own destiny, and Byzantium was a polyglot society in which a multitude of ethnic groups lived under the emperor prizing peace above war. Of course, it wasn’t an accident that Constantinople survived for so long. Since ancient times, settlements have been protected by walls, ranging from simple earth fortifications, mounds, and ditches to sophisticated structures incorporating gates and watchtowers.
Amid the upheaval in the Islamic world following Muhammad’s death, the Umayyad Caliphate lasted for less than a century, but it spent that time becoming one of the most influential of the major caliphates. The Umayyads also constantly fought the Byzantines, and on August 15, 717, their formidable army, under the command of General Maslama ibn 'Abd al-Malik, arrived in Thrace and laid siege to the imposing walls of Constantinople. This event, which lasted a full year until August 15, 718, represented the apex of the Islamic expansionist project aimed at definitively eradicating the Byzantine Empire and subjugating its seemingly impregnable capital. The siege of 717–718 was of great significance, marking a crucial and irreversible turning point in the history of Europe and the Middle East.
The remarkable resistance of Constantinople was not just a stroke of good fortune, but a decisive turning point that permanently halted the Islamic expansion into Eastern Europe. The Byzantine victory was the result of a potent blend of military architecture, technological superiority, environmental conditions that were disastrous for the invaders, and astute strategic diplomacy. The definitive failure of the invasion project ultimately forced the caliphate to abandon the idea of conquering the Byzantine Empire.
