  The 50 years following the assassination of Severus Alexander on March 19, 235 CE has been generally regarded by academics as one of the lowest points in the history of the Roman Empire. This stands in stark contrast to the previous 150 years, which included the reigns of the Five Good Emperors and has been universally praised as one of the high points of the empire. Severus Alexander was the last of the Severan emperors, and the subsequent years of crisis (235-285 CE) were characterized by a series of short reigns, usually ending in the violent death of the reigning emperor. 
  At the same time, this period of time also saw the empire beset by threatening forces on all sides. The Romans faced a newly resurgent Persia in the east, as well as significant forces from German tribes on the Rhine and Goths along the Danube. The various conflicts would result in the unprecedented death of a sitting emperor in battle, which took place in 251 with Emperor Decius, and Emperor Valerian was captured in 260 CE.  
  Diocletian's reign would see reforms put into place to achieve the desired end of the Imperial Crisis, and several of the emperors before him may well have had the ability to manage the reform process, but the army’s power and willingness to use and abuse power ensured that few of them truly had a chance to really make their marks. It was the worst period in the history of the Roman Empire to that point, even as it forced the Romans to deal with belligerent foreign powers and problems created by the emergence of increasingly powerful and populous provinces. 
  The pressures created by population growth, both within the empire and outside of it, have been thoroughly researched, but more recently, issues created by climate change have also commanded attention.

  The State and Revolution (1917), by Vladimir Lenin, describes the role of the State in society, the necessity of proletarian revolution, and the theoretic inadequacies of social democracy in achieving revolution to establish the dictatorship of the proletariat.
  Lenin began the composition of an early draft of State and Revolution while in exile in Switzerland in 1916, under the title "Marxism on the State".
  "Soviets", legislative bodies of workers and peasants were the de facto governments of Petrograd and many smaller cities. The Russian public was deeply upset with the continuation of Russia's involvement in World War One and the continued economic difficulties that it brought on. On November 7th The Congress of Soviets officially elected a coalition of Bolsheviks, Socialist Revolutionaries and Mensheviks to govern. Through the Red Guards, paramilitary organizations of revolutionary workers, sailors and soldiers; the Soviet government was able to storm The Winter Palace and officially abolishing the Provisional government. The revolution was not uniformly accepted among all Russians, resistance and disruption would occur routinely leading up to The Russian Civil War. A particular issue that Lenin covers in The State and Revolution was the right of nations to secession (The right to self determination); during the composition of this book The Mensheviks of Georgia declared independence soon after The Revolution forming The Democratic Republic of Georgia.
  Among other famous Marxists there were also: Georgi Plekhanov, Joseph Stalin, Leon Trotsky, Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, Ernst Bloch, Pyotr Kropotkin, Jean-Paul Charles Aymard Sartre, Wilhelm Reich, Perry Anderson.

  Ancient Egypt was a civilization deeply rooted in religion, where gods and goddesses played an essential role in shaping daily life, governance, and the afterlife. The Egyptian pantheon was vast, with deities representing natural forces, human emotions, and cosmic order. These gods were not distant or abstract figures but were actively involved in the lives of the people, influencing everything from the flooding of the Nile to the fate of the soul after death. The Egyptians believed that by honoring their gods through rituals, prayers, and temple offerings, they could maintain harmony in the universe.  
  One of the defining aspects of Egyptian religion was its polytheistic nature. Unlike monotheistic faiths, which center around a single divine being, the Egyptians worshipped hundreds of gods, each with unique attributes, symbols, and responsibilities. Some, like Ra, the sun god, were powerful and widely revered, while others, such as Taweret, the hippo goddess of childbirth, had more specialized roles. Many deities evolved over time, merging with others or taking on new characteristics as different cities and dynasties rose to prominence. This fluidity allowed Egyptian religion to remain relevant for over three thousand years.  
  The gods were not only worshipped in grand temples but were also deeply integrated into the personal lives of the people. Pharaohs were believed to be divine or semi-divine figures, ruling as representatives of the gods on Earth. Priests conducted elaborate ceremonies in temple complexes dedicated to major deities, ensuring their favor and protection over the land. Ordinary Egyptians also kept small shrines in their homes, prayed to household gods for blessings, and wore protective amulets bearing sacred symbols. Magic and mythology were intertwined with religious practice, with spells and sacred texts often invoking the names of gods for healing, guidance, and protection.
