In Islamic belief, there is a connection between black magic and the jinn race. The jinn race are supernatural beings created by Allah SWT (God) and are mentioned in The Holy Quran. They possess free will and can choose to follow either good or evil. Some individuals who practice black magic may seek assistance from the jinn in order to carry out their harmful intentions. Black magic often involves invoking and seeking the help of jinn in order to cause harm to others. This can include using specific spells, rituals, or incantations to gain control over the jinn and manipulate them to carry out the practitioner’s desires. However, it is important to note that engaging in black magic is strictly prohibited in Islam. It is worth mentioning that not all jinn are involved in black magic, and not all black magic involves the assistance of jinn. Black magic can also be performed without the involvement of jinn, using other means such as spells, potions, or other supernatural forces.

Parmenides of Elea stands as one of the most pivotal figures in the history of Western philosophy. His contributions, particularly in metaphysics and epistemology, challenged the prevailing philosophical ideas of his time and laid the groundwork for later philosophical inquiries. Born in the late sixth or early fifth century BCE, Parmenides is best known for his poem On Nature, in which he articulates a radical vision of reality that denies change, multiplicity, and the reliability of sensory perception. His assertion that “what is, is” and “what is not, is not” forms the core of his philosophical system, establishing the principle that true being must be eternal, unchanging, and indivisible. 
Prior to Parmenides, early Greek thinkers, particularly the Presocratics like Heraclitus and the Milesian philosophers, sought to explain the nature of reality through empirical observation and the identification of a fundamental substance or element underlying all things. Heraclitus, for example, famously posited that change and flux were the fundamental aspects of existence, encapsulated in the notion that “everything flows.” Parmenides, however, forcefully rejected this view, arguing that change and plurality were mere illusions. He insisted that the senses deceive us, leading to a mistaken belief in a world of becoming rather than a singular, unchanging being. His philosophical method, based on reason rather than empirical observation, introduced a new way of thinking that would profoundly influence later philosophical traditions. 
The significance of Parmenides lies not only in the content of his arguments but also in the impact he had on subsequent thinkers. Plato, for instance, engaged extensively with Parmenidean thought, particularly in dialogues such as the Parmenides and Sophist, where he sought to reconcile the Eleatic notion of an unchanging reality with the apparent diversity of the world.

Alfred Adler

Though psychologist Alfred Adler (1870-1937) does not have the wider recognition accorded Freud and Jung, his work and ideas had an enduring effect on the practice and development of psychotherapy in the 20th century. This collection of 28 lectures and essays, published under the title The Practice and Theory of Individual Psychology (published in 1924), brings together many of his main ideas. 
Adler was initially best known for his interest in the inferiority complex and its effect on the personality and subsequent behaviour of individuals. But his focus became increasingly concerned with the particular observation that it was the social environment of individuals that had a more fundamental influence on behavioural patterns than over-arching theories on sex, symbolism, archetypes and the like. He has been described as the first ‘community psychologist.’ This contributed considerably to the growth of schools of psychotherapy in the second half of the 20th century and their proliferation in the 21st. In fact, one historian has commented, “It would not be easy to find another author from which so much has been borrowed on all sides without acknowledgement than Alfred Adler.’ 
The topics covered in this collection are varied and date from the pre- and post World War I period. It opens with Individual Psychology, its Assumptions and its Results (1914) and includes Individual-Psychological Treatment of Neuroses (1913), The Study of Child Psychology and Neurosis (1913), Nervous Insomnia (1914), Compulsion Neurosis (1918), Dreams and Dream-Interpretation (1912), and Demoralized Children (1920). 
His range is wide: Among them are essays such as Neurotic Hunger Strike and New Viewpoint of War Neuroses, both concerns that regularly feature in newspapers and public discussion today. As a contrast, he offers interesting observations on the writing of Dostoyevsky, and one particular case of the suicide of a prominent 19th century Austrian politician. 
This recording also contains (Chapter XIV) the 1918 lecture Homo-sexuality which Adler gave to the Jurististisch-Medizinische Gesellschaft of Zurich. It represents views widely held by the society of the time, which are now unacceptable. The chapter is nevertheless included here for historical purposes.
