Sinopsis

A revelation about her past makes her re-evaluate her supernatural gifts and once again she is left wondering whether they are a boon or a bane, and what exactly the trail of death left in their wake means for her future. While she wrestles with all of these existential questions about the nature of her powers, she finds herself haunted by sinister monks, long-dead serial killers, and perhaps most perplexing of all, unusually vicious swans. What terrifies her the most, however, is the evil that lurks in the hearts of man, and how easy it is for it to bubble up to the surface.

"The Fall of the House of Usher" is a short story by American writer Edgar Allan Poe, first published in 1839 in Burton's Gentleman's Magazine, then included in the collection Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque in 1840. The short story, a work of Gothic fiction, includes themes of madness, family, isolation, and metaphysical identities. 
The story begins with the unnamed narrator arriving at the house of his childhood friend, Roderick Usher, having received a letter from him in a distant part of the country, complaining of an illness and asking for his help. As he arrives, the narrator notices a thin crack extending from the roof, down the front of the house and into the adjacent tarn, or lake. 
It is revealed that Roderick's sister, Madeline, is also ill and falls into cataleptic, deathlike trances. Roderick and Madeline are the only remaining members of the Usher family...

The human race prides itself on being the most organised of animals.  We manage the fate of all other species. All other animals bow to our control or suffer.  In diminishing numbers we allow some to live in the wild but in increasing numbers we domesticate them and whether they become part of the family, a best friend or wonderfully decorative accessory we take their compliance for granted.  Such a shame then when these creatures take umbrage and prepare their revenge on us they do so in ways designed to show that when the tables turn ‘mercy’ is just a word that we humans plead for, expect, but, of course, is always denied.
