Synopsis

Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is a masterpiece of English literature and one of the most enduring romantic novels ever written.
At the center of the novel is Elizabeth Bennet, intelligent, lively, and independent-minded, whose sharp observations often reveal the absurdities of the society around her. Her family's future is uncertain, and with five daughters to marry and limited financial security, questions of rank, property, reputation, and suitable matches shape everyday life. When the wealthy and reserved Mr. Darcy enters her world, Elizabeth forms an immediate dislike of his proud manner, while Darcy must confront his own assumptions about class, character, and affection.
Around them, Austen builds a vivid comedy of manners filled with memorable figures: the anxious Mrs. Bennet, the charming but unreliable Mr. Wickham, the pompous Mr. Collins, the gentle Jane Bennet, and the gracious Mr. Bingley. Through courtship, misunderstanding, scandal, and self-discovery, the novel explores how first impressions can mislead, how social expectations can distort judgment, and how true understanding requires humility as well as feeling.
With sparkling dialogue, precise irony, and extraordinary insight into human behavior, Pride and Prejudice remains both a deeply satisfying love story and a sharp portrait of social life in Regency England. Its themes of marriage, money, reputation, independence, and emotional maturity continue to speak to readers across generations.
Perfect for lovers of classic literature, literary romance, English social comedy, and timeless stories of character and transformation, this celebrated novel remains an essential work for every personal library.

When the Otis family—brash, modern Americans—move into the ancient and supposedly haunted Canterville Chase, they’re met not with terror, but with sarcasm, oil, and detergent. Poor Sir Simon, the resident ghost, has frightened generations of Cantervilles into madness and despair, but now finds himself humiliated and ignored by skeptical newcomers who care more about removing bloodstains than respecting the supernatural.
Witty, satirical, and surprisingly moving, The Canterville Ghost blends comedy and ghost story into a timeless tale about redemption, forgiveness, and the gentle power of compassion. At its heart is the unlikely friendship between Sir Simon and young Virginia Otis, whose kindness becomes the key to unlocking centuries of sorrow.
This new narration by Simon Relph captures both the dry humor and the emotional depth of Oscar Wilde’s beloved story.

Jack London — a writer whose works are enthusiastically read all over the world. His collection "Love of Life" is one of the brilliant pearls of his Northern stories cycle. Alaska is the place where each person should reveal their own real features. The North makes equal the poor and the rich; the intense cold does not take into account the infirmity; harsh, biting wind is indifferent to the social status, and a wild beast does not discriminate between social standings. In the confrontation with the severe nature, the heroes of the adducted works vanquish not only thanks to their courage, endurance, energy, but first and foremost, due to the strength of mind, an obsession with life, the capability even in the extreme situations to remain a Human.

A Lithuanian family arrives in Chicago's Packingtown expecting work and gets the killing floor: rotten meat, wage theft, a wedding debt that never ends, and winter in a house bought on terms designed to break them. Upton Sinclair spent seven weeks living among the stockyard workers and published in 1906; the public was so shaken by the descriptions of the meat that Congress passed a pure food law within months. Sinclair said he had aimed at the nation's heart and hit its stomach. Sixty plates by George Bellows and George Luks, among others, capture the tenements, street markets, and winter light of the immigrant city Sinclair wrote about.

In the heart of Paris, where art and ambition intertwine, the boundaries between genius and madness blur. A tale of creation, obsession, and the quest for perfection, this story dances on the edge of brilliance. The artist, driven by an insatiable desire to capture the unattainable, confronts the fragility of his own vision. As the canvas comes to life, so too does a world where nothing is as it seems, and the cost of true artistry might just be too high.
Balzac's story whispers of the fine line between genius and obsession, where the artist's soul is as fragile as the masterpiece he seeks. It's a tale of mystery that unveils the delicate balance between creation and destruction. With every stroke, the artist is both consumed and liberated, creating not just a work of art, but a haunting reflection of his own inner turmoil.
Elegantly weaving themes of passion, ambition, and the price of greatness, Balzac captures the essence of artistic endeavor and its dark allure. It is a story that speaks not only to the artist but to anyone who dares to chase perfection, knowing that the pursuit may well cost more than expected.

The Kreutzer Sonata and Other Stories gathers some of Leo Tolstoy's most intense and thought-provoking works. In the title novella, Tolstoy dives deep into the psyche of Pozdnyshev, a man who becomes so overcome with jealousy and suspicion that it drives him to murder his wife. This tragic tale explores themes of sexual passion, possessiveness, and the moral implications of love, while also reflecting Tolstoys broader views on marriage and human behavior. The collection also includes other short stories that reveal Tolstoy's fascination with human conflict, spirituality, and the search for personal redemption. His exploration of ethical and philosophical issues—often set against the backdrop of rural Russian society—demonstrates his ability to delve into the deepest emotional and psychological territories. Each story challenges the reader to examine their own beliefs, values, and the complexities of life.
