  This book is a heartfelt mixture of spiritual and encouraging poetry. Some of the poems draw from my own life experiences, spanning from childhood to adulthood. I have poured warmth, love, and care into these words, with the intention of reaching people who may be struggling with depression or hardship. My hope is to point them toward their Creator, offering comfort and understanding. I want to remind readers that everyday disappointments are a natural part of life, but we will get through them and be just fine. 
  One of the poems, “What Is The Fabric of Your Love,” explores the love between a man and a woman, highlighting the deep emotional connections we as humans need in order to feel whole. Throughout the collection, I offer analogies and perspectives that encourage us to think about the world around us and our shared humanity. It is a call to show compassion and belief in humanity—something we often forget in the busyness of our lives. My poems aim to touch the psyche, shedding light on the things we are too busy to think about, but that we all experience in one way or another. I strive to keep the work relatable and touching, offering a message that can bring a smile to your face or inspire you to bless someone else with kindness. 
  One poem that is very dear to me is a tribute to Mr. Tyre Nichols, who tragically lost his life at the hands of police. The poem, titled “My Skateboard and Me,” is a heartfelt expression of grief and reflection. Another poem, “We All Begin and End with Each Other,” calls for greater unity and connection across ethnic lines, encouraging us to reach out to our neighbors, no matter their background. In “Who’s on Third,” I reflect on the time when we all must leave this earth, while “Banana Fritters Makes Me Smile” takes the reader on a nostalgic journey back to childhood memories.

Each poet has a particular style, an individual and unique way with words and yet each of us seems to recognise the path and destination of where the verses lead, even if sometimes the full comprehension may be a little beyond us. 
   
  Through the centuries every culture has produced verse to symbolize and to describe everything from everyday life, natural wonders, the human condition and even in its more hubristic moments, the crushing triumph of an enemy. 
   
  In the volumes of this series we take a look through the prism of individual regions of the United States through the centuries and decades. 
   
  The United States may be many things: the world’s policeman, a bully, a shameless purveyor of mass market culture but it also, in its better moments, a standard bearer for truth, transparency, equality and the more positive qualities of democracy.

  Kenichi Zenimura – known as “Zeni” – loved baseball. As a young man in the 1920s he developed a Nisei baseball league in Fresno, California, and later organized barnstorming tours that brought the likes of Babe Ruth to the West Coast and Japan. And despite being sent to a Japanese-American internment camp in Arizona during World War II, he knew that somehow, baseball would be the key to improving the lives of his fellow detainees.

  Uroš Zupan (1963) is one of Slovenia's most prominent contemporary poets and he has made his mark on Slovenian poetry of the past 30 years. Slow Sailing presents the author's own selection of the best of his best. This collection, which covers a period of more than two dozen years, is both personal and stern, since the author deals with his own poetry. From his delving into the golden age of his individual past to a sensuous hymn to soft summer light and the miracle of life that does not exist without the arts, Slow Sailing invites us to discover and re-discover one of post-independence Slovenia's most distinctive poetic voices, while also offering a unique insight into Slovenian poetry at the turn of the millennium.
  
  The greatest Slovenian poet of the middle generation, his work has not been translated much (and not at all into English); the book is already part of the Slovenian canon and contains Zupan's own selection of his finest poems. He is already included in school literature curricula.
