The book situates Sitting Bull within a broader socio-political context, examining the cultural ramifications of the conflicts while highlighting the resilience of Indigenous leaders against colonial aggression. Boyd'Äôs prose is both accessible and academically rigorous, making it suitable for scholars and general readers alike. James P. Boyd, a historian with a profound interest in Native American studies, draws on his background in anthropology and extensive field research to illuminate the intricate dynamics of this era. His previous works on American history and Indigenous perspectives reflect a deep commitment to providing a balanced narrative that respects the autonomy and agency of Native peoples. Boyd's engagement with both historical texts and oral traditions enriches the authenticity of his portrayal of Sitting Bull and his community. This book is highly recommended for anyone interested in American history, Indigenous resistance, or the complexities of cultural interactions during the westward expansion of the United States. A two-time Pulitzer Prize–winning cartoonist shreds the GOP’s record of backward policies and abysmal leaders. Luckovich takes aim at the NRA, Trump, Bush, Ted Cruz, and more.

The Twisted History of the GOP is an editorial cartoon exploration into the ongoing crack-up of the Republican party. Once a proud, competent counterbalance to the Democratic party, the GOP began to change in the ’90s with the arrival of Republican representative and future House Speaker Newt Gingrich to Congress, assisted by radical radio host Rush Limbaugh and a new television network, the right-wing, propaganda-spewing Fox News. In the years that followed, they were aided by Mitch McConnell and the George W. Bush and Trump administrations, in transforming the GOP into what it is now: a fascist, racist, anti-science, pro-conspiracy cult, in thrall to the twice-impeached conman and former president, Donald Trump.

These cartoons will shock and delight you, and you won’t be able to look away from Luckovich’s witty editorial wisdom. Combining a rapier wit alongside exceptional caricatures, The Twisted History of the GOP will make you laugh until you cry.

In Frontline Bodies, Nicolas Martin-Breteau argues that sports are not—and have never been—purely about entertainment for Black Americans. Instead, beginning in the 1890s during Reconstruction, Black Americans proactively used athletics as a tactic to fight racial oppression.

Martin-Breteau considers the work of Edwin B. Henderson, a prominent Black physical educator, civil rights activist, and historian of Black sports. Training Black children as athletes, Henderson felt, would work both to fortify racial pride and to dismantle racial prejudices—two necessary requirements for a successful political liberation struggle. In this way, physical education became political education.

By the end of the twentieth century, Martin-Breteau argues, racial uplift through sports had lost its emancipating power. The emphasis on the accumulation of wealth for professional athletes, as well as sports' ability to reinforce anti-Black stereotypes, had become a political problem for true collective liberation. For a marginalized group of people that has been physically excluded from the democratic process, however, sports remain a political resource. By studying the relationship between athletics and politics, Frontline Bodies renews the history of minority bodies and their power of action.

We all experience intense emotions like anger at times. Not only is anger normal, but it can serve as a great motivator and a way to improve one’s emotional intelligence. It can encourage self-improvement, instill a sense of self-control, and even trigger our “fight” response which is necessary for survival. At the most basic level, anger can help children determine whether they’re being treated fairly and allows them to tell when things aren’t right. That being said, anger can become a severe problem if it grows out of control and leads to aggressive behaviors.
An angry child isn’t a bad one, nor are their attitudes and actions necessarily a result of behavioral problems. These intense emotions are often triggered by psychological, social, or even hormonal problems, which is why parents should try to understand where their children’s anger comes from to handle the situation effectively. In most cases, the root problem is not apparent, which is why parents automatically assume that their children are misbehaving, so they take action accordingly. Grounding or yelling at a child who can’t control their anger isn’t going to fix anything and will likely make things worse.
