A sweet and sly exploration of the Jane Austen–inspired teen movie and its evergreen imperative to be kind, do better, and find the activist within

We are totally butt-crazy in love with Clueless. Since the movie’s premiere in 1995, pop culture has mined Amy Heckerling’s high school comedy for inspiration, from Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX’s “Fancy” music video to Cher’s iconic yellow plaid suit appearing at every Halloween party.

In Ugh As If!, Veronica Litt argues that this seemingly fluffy teen romp is the quintessential thinking woman’s movie, one in which the audience is asked to seriously consider the beauty and power of naïveté. Cher Horowitz’s gradual pivot from oblivious it girl to burgeoning activist is a powerful reminder that even the most unlikely people can change for the better and contribute to their communities. In this bright, shiny film, pursuing a more just society isn’t just possible — it’s enjoyable. This fun, feminine, feel-good movie is a counter-narrative to nihilism, a refusal to give into cynicism, hopelessness, and passivity. Almost without viewers noticing, Clueless teaches Cher, and us, how to become better. Like the film it examines, Ugh As If! nudges even the most jaded viewer into feeling hopeful about the future.

Stover offers a comprehensive and informative guide for both professionals and patients who are interested in learning more about psychedelic-assisted therapy.   Each chapter reveals a vignette taken directly from the psychedelic space that shows the medicines (medium and macro-doses of MDMA, psilocybin, ketamine, and cannabis), why they were chosen, and the process used for transformation during the sessions. Stover weaves in wisdom from indigenous and Mexican healers and practitioners with application exercises, writing prompts, and journal entries to deepen the reader’s healing journey. Discover who your really are. Transcending Anxiety, Fear, and Depression Without Techniques or Skills – A Self-Help Guide to Rediscover Life's Essence.Have you ever truly pondered the most fundamental questions of life? Who are you anyway? What is this place we call the Universe? What is reality? As midlife came about, drained and unfulfilled despite being fairly successful, I was almost done . From the outside, my life looked usual, positive, but inside - there was a whole different story.During my life journey, extraordinary encounters propelled me onto a path of deep exploration that concerns the nature of reality. It led me to the crossroads of spirituality, philosophy, science, psychology and even the veiled territory of the psychedelic realm, all in pursuit of understanding the very essence of myself. In a span of years, I delved into the depths of my mind, confronting its enigmatic corners, including the dark ones, in a search for clarity.I’m not a scientist or a mystic. You could say that I’m a philosopher that went outside the perimeters of the institution to test out his philosophy in real life, or in other words, I live by what I say. This is my experience, my self-evident interaction with the universe on a daily basis over a lifetime of almost 40 years.I’m here not to create another belief system but rather to make you question yours. This book could be interpreted as a self-help guide, a spiritual journey, or a philosophical discourse. However, I believe that within the words of "Behind the Mask, Beyond the Mind," readers can discover themselves, or provoke deep questions. In this sense, this book represents a dialogue between you and me; I pose questions, and you respond within yourself. Through honest conversations, we can come to perceive reality as it truly is, and as a result, celebrate, accept, and love ourselves just as we are.

Aftermath of World War II The:...

At the end of World War II, the world was faced with some sobering statistics. With over 50,000,000 deaths when both military and civilian losses had been accounted for, the death toll was devastating, and for many of those who lived in countries that had been ravaged by war, hunger and financial strain had become parts of daily life. Furthermore, beyond the physical damage was the growing knowledge of the atrocities that had been committed both before and during the war. In fact, the Allies were discussing how to dole out justice for Axis war crimes as early as 1943, and once the war was over, it was time for the nations to turn their attention towards determining the proper punishments.
In the wake of the war, the European continent was devastated, and the conflict left the Soviet Union and the United States as uncontested superpowers. This ushered in over 45 years of Cold War, and a political alignment of Western democracies against the Communist Soviet bloc that produced conflicts pitting allies on each sides fighting, even as the American and Soviet militaries never engaged each other. Though it never truly got “hot” between the two superpowers directly, the Cold War was a tense era until the dissolution of the USSR, and nothing symbolized the split more than the division of Berlin.
If anyone wondered whether the Cold War would dominate geopolitics, any hopes that it wouldn’t were dashed by the Soviets’ blockade of West Berlin in April 1948, ostensibly to protest the currency being used in West Berlin but unquestionably aiming to extend their control over Germany’s capital. By cutting off all access via roads, rail, and water, the Soviets hoped to force the Allies out, and at the same time, Stalin’s action would force a tense showdown that would test their mettle.
