Synopsis

A mystical weapon from an ancient legend becomes the focal point of a struggle between the spirits of the land and those who seek to conquer it. This shorter, punchy narrative blends elements of the supernatural with the harsh realities of frontier life. It offers a unique, folkloric perspective on the collision of cultures in the American wilderness.

Catherine Ann Stevens was born on 20th September 1803 in Borough Green, Kent.
She was mainly home-schooled. Her marriage to Major John Crowe seemed to be an unhappy one, although she had a son in 1823.
By 1838 she was separated and living in Edinburgh where she was friends with several writers including de Quincey and Thackeray. By this time too her writing had given her both an audience and an income.
In 1841 ‘The Adventures of Susan Hopley’ was the first of her books to establish her as a novelist and was followed by several others. She also wrote two plays, both with historical themes. A verse tragedy ‘Aristodemus’ (1838) and the melodramatic ‘The Cruel Kindness’ (1853) brought further but limited success. ‘The Adventures of Susan Hopley’ was reprinted several times as well as turned into a play and a penny serial.
Her stories were also in demand from periodicals such as the weekly Chambers' Edinburgh Journal and Dickens's Household Words.
Her own writing interests, inspired by German writers, turned to supernatural subjects. The collection ‘The Night-side of Nature’ (1848) became her most popular work.
However, a bizarre episode happened in Edinburgh in February 1854, when she was discovered naked one night, convinced that spirits had rendered her invisible. After treatment she is said to have made a complete recovery.
In her later literary career Crowe also wrote a number of children’s books. She now lived mainly in London though at times she settled abroad.
In 1861 her finances tightened, and she sold her copyrights. In 1871 she moved to Folkstone
Catherine Crowe died in Folkstone on 14th June 1876.

Charles Pierre Baudelaire was born on April 9th 1821 in Paris to an amateur artist mother and professional father. His father died when Charles was 6 but his mother remarried shortly after to Lieutenant Colonel Jacques Aupick who later became a prominent ambassador. Consequently Charles received a good education and was encouraged to enter the legal profession by both parents but instead wanted to pursue the life of the writer and had already developed an appetite, whilst studying law, for prostitutes and alcohol that inevitably led to debt and his parents disapproval.
Baudelaire's literary published work began with well received art reviews and essays. He was a pioneering translator which included the works of Edgar Allan Poe but his most remarkable, famous and memorable works was his poetry and in particular his volume entitled The Flowers of Evil ('Les Fleurs du Mal'). The principal subject of these innovative styled poems about the changing nature of beauty in the modern industrialised Paris were sex and death and included lost innocence, lesbianism, alcohol, depression and urban corruption. This work created a huge controversy that led to the successful prosecution of both Baudelaire and his publisher for creating an offense against public morals. However, the book did find an appreciative audience including Victor Hugo who wrote to Baudelaire: 'Your fleurs du mal shine and dazzle like stars... I applaud your vigorous spirit with all my might'. The poems were hugely influential and in 1949 the judgement was officially reversed and Baudelaire recognised for his incredible talent.
He died within a year of suffering a severe stroke on 31st August, 1867 and was buried in the Montparnasse Cemetery.

They were princesses that were never supposed to inherit the throne, but to live happily ever after with their princes.
Everything changed when a mass slaughter took the lives of the generation before, leaving an elderly king with no heirs, save them.
Felicia rules the kingdom with a heavy heart, separated from her long term love to love a man who makes her choose; love or the throne.
Eva, the sickly but strong-hearted princess, and James, the navy commodore and trusted advisor of Felecia, no longer have to hide their long term love affair.
Eva and James think they finally have peace after being separated for 15 years by Eva's arranged marriage: an alliance once made to help fortify the country.
Now, Felicia must choose her own love and happiness or the throne.
Will she disrupt the finally peaceful and relaxing lives of Eva and James to have them take the throne?
Or will she choose to live in misery without the man she loves; a man she cannot marry?
“The Uncertain Throne” makes us realize what we must do in the most desperate of times and realize our true self.
Not all of us would respond the same way; not all of us would become the same person or make the same choices we think we would make.
