This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice.
Les Knight, a young man from Camberwell, Victoria was like many who joined to serve his country during the Second World War. But unlike many others his skill as a Lancaster pilot enabled him to successfully breach the Eder Dam in the now infamous Dambusters Raid. At the age of 22, Les was awarded the Distinguished Service Order and became a national hero.
But his war service continued, and four months after the Dambusters Raid, his aircraft was badly damaged. On this occasion, Les’s skill and bravery were again on display as he held the stricken plane steady to allow his seven crewmates to bail out.
Then, as he searched for a place to ditch the aircraft, he steered clear of a Dutch village to avoid any civilian injuries. The plane hit the ground hard, cartwheeled, and Les was killed.
Five of the seven crew members were able to evade being captured by the Germans and, with the help of underground movements, were returned to England. The other two were captured and detained in POW camps until the war’s end. All seven returned home to continue their lives, marry and have children. Their lives are Les’ legacy.
This is the remarkable story of one brave Australian who answered his country’s calling and who demonstrated courage far beyond expectation. His gravestone carries the inscription ‘Let us be Worthy’. The village of Den Ham has never forgotten the bravery of this young Australian pilot. His grave has always been immaculately kept.

The true and extraordinary story of one of the last surviving women to have worked in codebreaking at both Bletchley Park and the Pentagon.
Born one hundred years ago, Betty Webb MBE, LOH (Legion of Honour) has had a ringside seat to history. After graduating from school, she faced the usual limited opportunities for employment on offer to women at the time. However, with the war in full swing, fate intervened and in 1941, wanting to play her part in the war effort, Betty joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service (Women’s Army).
After being interviewed by an intelligence officer, she found herself at Euston station with her kit-bag, a travel warrant in her pocket and instructions to get off the train at Bletchley Park.
Between 1941 and 1945 Betty played a vital role in the top-secret efforts being made to decipher the secret communications of the Germans and later the Japanese. In 1945, as other members of the forces returned home from the war in Europe, she was sent to the Pentagon and was in Washington DC when the atomic bombs fell and when Eisenhower announced the end of the war.
Betty was unable to reveal the true nature of her work, even to her parents, until years later. In this fascinating book, she revisits the key moments of her life and recounts the incredible stories from her time at Bletchley Park.

Eleanor of Aquitaine is a controversial figure in history. Many have referred to her in a different light. Some with some opinions, others with others. Today, you will learn more about those and get as many facts straight as possible.Though meant to represent the extension of the unbroken line of Emperors from Augustus to Constantine VI, Charlemagne's crowning led to the facility of 2 different (and usually competing) Empires and claims to royal authority. It led to war in 802, and for centuries later, the Emperors of the West and the East would contend for supremacy over the whole continent.Historians have disputed for centuries whether Charlemagne understood the Pope's intent to crown him Emperor before the crowning (Charlemagne announced that if he had known, he wouldn't have gone into Saint Peter's, according to chapter twenty-eight of Einhard's Vita Karoli Magni), but this dispute has obscured the more vital question of why the Pope gave the title and why Charlemagne accepted it.In this book, you will find out more about eh controversies around Eleanor of Aquitaine, and her legacy.
