Beschreibung

The seas are wicked and dangerous at the best of times. The ancient gods of old still lay claim to the ocean realm man cannot hope to conquer. Very few still make offerings to those unforgiving deities in faith for clemency; fewer still have learned the secrets to coexist with such vengeful beings...

...and only one among those was ever favored with the title, Queen of the Seas.

In a world ruled by men and gold, Callisto was no fool. If she wanted something, she had to take it by any means necessary, and it was because of her bold, unruly nature that everything she had dreamed for had changed... with the whisper of a god and a bloodied dagger... twice.

The life of a pirate had never been her dream, until the moment she seized control of the Poseidon’s Fury. Right there and then, it had become her destiny. One she had been born for. Chosen for.

And one which men had begun to fear.

When Jesse McDermitt leaves the Marine Corps, he has no idea what he will do for the rest of his life. He only knows he doesn't want to spend the coming winter anywhere cold. His greatest skill is killing people from up to a mile away and he knows there aren't many job opportunities in the civilian world for that.
Jesse also knows his way around boats and has an old friend living free and easy in the Florida Keys. Being an experienced diver and angler, he immediately heads south toward Key West and the end of the road.
With a single comment, a waitress in a waterfront restaurant in north Key Largo shakes loose a long dormant dream and Jesse runs with it. With the help of friends, new and old, he buys just the right boat to live on and soon starts a part time charter business. Everything is going smoothly, until a Carolina girl and a hurricane hit him at the same time.
Danger lurks in the sleepy little town of Marathon, in the middle of the Florida Keys, as well as in the swamps of the Everglades. But danger doesn't expect to run into a man like Jesse. A man who will not only respond swiftly in facing it, but with a vengeance unexpected.

The Dunwich Horror — Part 7 of 10

Welcome to Timeless Terrors No. 62, continuing H. P. Lovecraft’s nightmarish journey into cosmic terror: The Dunwich Horror.
The nightmare can no longer be contained. What was once hidden in the upper rooms of the Whateley farmhouse has broken free, spilling into the countryside of Dunwich as a vast, invisible force. The earth trembles beneath its passage, farms are crushed in the dark of night, and witnesses speak in terrified whispers of air that ripples and twists around an unseen, colossal mass.
Wilbur’s desperate search for forbidden knowledge has given way to consequences no human mind can fully grasp. The hills groan, the trees splinter, and the land itself recoils as something ancient and alien moves through the valley, driven by instincts far older than mankind.
Narrated by Amazon-bestselling horror author Jonathan Dunne, this chapter draws you into the most destructive phase of Lovecraft’s vision — where reality fractures, sanity falters, and the fragile world of men bends beneath the weight of inhuman powers.
This is Part 7 of a 10-part complete audiobook. Stay tuned — the horror now walks free.

The lottery ticket by Anton Chekhov is a short story. As title suggests it revolves around probability of winning lottery. Ivan and his wife are from middle class background. However, at first skeptical Ivan soon finds hope when he sees probability of his wife, Misha has a chance of winning lottery,
The moral of the story is that material possessions and wealth do not bring true happiness, and that greed can lead to bitterness and broken relationships. Instead, the story suggests that people should focus on the love and companionship they have in their lives, rather than obsessing over money and possessions.

Stephen P H Butler Leacock FRSC was born on 30th December 1869 in Swanmore, near Southampton, England, the third of eleven children.
The family emigrated to Canada in 1876, settling on a 100-acre farm in Sutton, Ontario. There he was home-schooled until, funded by his grandfather, he was enrolled into the elite Upper Canada College in Toronto. Academically he was very strong and thence proceeded on to the University of Toronto to study languages and literature. After completing two years of study in only one, he was obliged to leave because his alcoholic father had abandoned the family and finances could not stretch to cover his education. Leacock now enrolled in a 3 month course to become a qualified high school teacher and thereby gain a regular income. For the next decade he worked at Upper Canada College.
His passion was economics and political theory and in 1899 he became a postgraduate student at the University of Chicago and earned his PhD. In 1906, he wrote ‘Elements of Political Science’, quickly adopted as a standard academic textbook for the next two decades and his most profitable book.
Although he had already published several humorous pieces it was only in 1910 that these works were collected and published and turned him into a commercially successful writer. Volume after volume now appeared almost annually and it was often said that more people had heard of him than of Canada.
Politically he was a social conservative. He opposed women’s right to vote and was a champion of Empire but also an advocate of social welfare legislation and wealth redistribution, but often caused friction with his racist views.
Stephen Leacock died on 28th March 1944 of throat cancer in Toronto, Canada. He was 74.
