Synopsis

As a parent new to synchronized swimming, I wanted to support my daughter in her new adventure of learning the sport. But I didn’t know where to turn. A Google search and an Amazon search only disclosed so much. That’s why I decided to put this guidebook together – to help other parents. As a non-swimming family, until now, I searched for resources and found very little. I was starting at ground zero, so I hunted for information from speed swimming and other synchronized swimming families and coaches. I’ve compiled the information in a format for first time parents (based on what I have learned through my daughter’s club). When I refer to first time parents in this guidebook, it is those family members or legal guardians who are supporting a child new to this sport.
Should your daughter try? My answer is “of course!” Especially, if your daughter danced, swam or participated in gymnastics or cheerleading, she will understand and enjoy this sport.

An entertaining and incisive chronicle from one of the foremost authorities in fantasy baseballRon Shandler is a self-described rotoholic. In the beginning, he hoarded newspaper box scores and pored over every number at his disposal. Then came the compulsion to create his own numbers. A monthly newsletter expanded into an annual Baseball Forecaster book, which spawned a media company, websites, tournaments, and more.Part memoir, part madcap history, Fantasy Expert is a fascinating and wide-ranging look at the modern growth and development of the game that went from cottage industry to national obsession. In chronicling his own escalating journey from rotisserie baseball hobbyist to professional authority, Shandler tells parallel tales of the rise of fantasy sports, the expanding baseball information industry, the increasingly sophisticated technology employed to gain an edge, and the fellow rotoholics who make it all possible. He also delves into the impact of fantasy baseball on the sport of baseball itself.Written with humor, honesty, and a deep passion for baseball, this is a must-listen for anyone interested in the history, progression, and future of fantasy baseball.

The Shining Mountain - The first...

'It's a preposterous plan. Still, if you do get up it, I think it'll be the hardest thing that's been done in the Himalayas.' So spoke Chris Bonington when Peter Boardman and Joe Tasker presented him with their plan to tackle the unclimbed West Wall of Changabang - the Shining Mountain - in 1976. Bonington's was one of the more positive responses; most felt the climb impossibly hard, especially for a two-man, lightweight expedition. This was, after all, perhaps the most fearsome and technically challenging granite wall in the Garhwal Himalaya and an ascent - particularly one in a lightweight style - would be more significant than anything done on Everest at the time. The idea had been Joe Tasker's. He had photographed the sheer, shining, white granite sweep of Changabang's West Wall on a previous expedition and asked Pete to return with him the following year. Tasker contributes a second voice throughout Boardman's story, which starts with acclimatisation, sleeping in a Salford frozen food store, and progresses through three nights of hell, marooned in hammocks during a storm, to moments of exultation at the variety and intricacy of the superb, if punishingly difficult, climbing. It is a story of how climbing a mountain can become an all-consuming goal, of the tensions inevitable in forty days of isolation on a two-man expedition; as well as a record of the moment of joy upon reaching the summit ridge against all odds. First published in 1978, The Shining Mountain is Peter Boardman's first book. It is a very personal and honest story that is also amusing, lucidly descriptive, very exciting, and never anything but immensely readable. It was awarded the John Llewelyn Rhys Prize for literature in 1979, winning wide acclaim. His second book, Sacred Summits, was published shortly after his death in 1982. Peter Boardman and Joe Tasker died on Everest in 1982, whilst attempting a new and unclimbed line. Both men were superb mountaineers and talented writers. Their literary legacy lives on through the Boardman Tasker Prize for Mountain Literature, established by family and friends in 1983 and presented annually to the author or co-authors of an original work which has made an outstanding contribution to mountain literature. Scuba diving is an activity that most people are interested in and curious about; however, only 1.1 percent of Americans are actually certified divers. When it comes to diving, there are three kinds of people, those that don’t try because they are too afraid and fear they won’t be able to do it, those that get certified but only dive once or twice, and those that fall in love.
HowExpert Guide to Scuba Diving will help alleviate the fears of the fearful, motivate more dives for the less experienced, and provide new adventures for those experts exploring the seas. The reason why most people are afraid of the water is that so much of it has yet to be thoroughly investigated. The globe is covered in 70% water, and only 10% has been explored. That leaves a lot of territory unknown to the human eye.
The purpose of this guide is to provide you with tips on getting certified, finding gear, diving trips, and much more! Think you have what it takes? Want to be among the elite group of responsible certified divers? Already an experienced diver but enthusiastic about learning more about your favorite hobby? Then follow these 101 tips to be the best diver you can be on land and at sea! Let’s dive in!
    About the Author

She currently resides on the East Coast of Florida, where she can enjoy her favorite hobby right off shore or out of a dive boat. When she’s not diving still enjoys being on or near the water, paddle boarding, doing SUP yoga, or just relaxing on the beach.

In 1959, sixteen-year-old Ian 'Spike' Sykes left school and, after a short period of work at Leeds University, joined the RAF. Already a keen climber, he signed up on the promise of excitement and adventure and was posted to the remote RAF Kinloss Mountain Rescue Team in the north of Scotland. It was the beginning of a journey which would see him involved in some of the most legendary call-outs in Scottish mountain rescue history, including the 1963 New Year tragedy on the Isle of Skye. In the Shadow of Ben Nevis tells Spike's story from growing up in Leeds in the aftermath of the Second World War, to his time with the RAF during the cold war. After leaving the RAF, he remained an active member of the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team and was involved in the first lower down the north face of Ben Nevis - an epic 1,500-foot descent to rescue stricken climbers in the middle of winter. Following a two-and-a-half-year stint on Antarctica with the British Antarctic Survey, he returned to the Highlands and opened the first Nevisport shop with his close friend Ian 'Suds' Sutherland. Together, they brought Sunday trading to Fort William and were one of a small number of shops to revolutionise outdoor retail in the UK. Later, he was a key player in the development of the Nevis Range ski area. Over many years, and against all odds, the project became a reality and a great success. Recounted within these pages are a great many lively tales of adventures and mishaps, told with immediacy and charm. With a foreword by legendary Scottish mountaineer Hamish MacInnes, a close friend of Spike's, In the Shadow of Ben Nevis is a must-read for anyone with an interest in Scottish mountaineering and mountain rescue.
