Synopsis

Melodies tells a story, our story!

Whether or not I make an entrance
It doesn't mean that I'm lost
Rather I can tell from the veil where I've decided to hide
It only matters that I'm transparent and can see
Though it isn't easy, I guess I'll just have to wait for my next move.
I have learned to depend on nature
 Life is meaningful
Many do not agree because they've been beaten too many times
But that's not enough reason to think life has nothing to offer
I'm a witness to its goodness
Now I guess we'll just have to wait for its shine.

An extraordinary listening experience! Hear Nikki Giovanni read from her newest collection of poems!
One of America’s most celebrated poets challenges us with this powerful and deeply personal collection of verse that speaks to the injustices of society while illuminating the depths of her own heart.
For more than fifty years, Nikki Giovanni’s poetry has dazzled and inspired readers. As sharp and outspoken as ever, she returns with this profound book of poetry in which she continues to call attention to injustice and racism, celebrate Black culture and Black lives, and and give readers an unfiltered look into her own experiences.
In Make Me Rain, she celebrates her loved ones and unapologetically declares her pride in her Black heritage, while exploring the enduring impact of the twin sins of racism and white nationalism. Giovanni reaffirms her place as a uniquely vibrant and relevant American voice with poems such as “I Come from Athletes” and “Rainy Days”—calling out segregation and Donald Trump; as well as “Unloved (for Aunt Cleota)” and “”When I Could No Longer”—her personal elegy for the relatives who saved her from an abusive home life.
Stirring, provocative, and resonant, the poems in Make Me Rain pierce the heart and nourish the soul.

He was quoted as saying, I just go for a walk and come back with a poem in my pocket.Gaiety, humor, nostalgia, and pathos fill every page, along with the genuine Service ring of virility which has made his verse loved throughout the English reading world.

When Japan launches a devastating invasion of Australia, Isla’s world shatters. Her husband is sent to the frontlines, leaving her with nothing but a promise—to protect Morey, the rescue dog she never wanted.
As evacuation trains arrive, the Army refuses to let Morey on board. Torn between her vow and survival, Isla makes a choice that changes everything.
Turning her back on safety, she flees north, crossing paths with Eugene, a young man running from his past. Together, they take shelter in her family’s abandoned farmhouse in rural Victoria. As days turn into weeks, survival creates a bond between them that neither expected.
But as their fragile sanctuary begins to crumble, Isla must make an impossible stay true to the promise she made, or follow the pull of her heart.
In a world on the brink, her promise might be the one thing that saves them all. Will Isla keep her word… or was Morey always destined to be another casualty of war?
    ---
Set in a reimagined world with an alternate ending to WWII, Private Morey’s Jacket is the debut novel from Australian author Kate Broadway. A stirring tale of love, loyalty, and what it means to keep a promise when the world is falling apart.

"Poetry for people who hate reading poems."
This book of poetry explores the divide between urban and rural America from the perspective of someone who has lived in and loved both. It is for anyone who has experienced the dissonance of feeling at home in two very different places at once, or who has felt caught in between cultures, ideologies, religions, morals, values, or ideas.

Abseiling lesbians! Queers in classrooms! Perverts panicking parents!
Thatcher's Section 28, which banned the 'promotion' of homosexuality in schools, was the landmark legislation that silenced a generation, offered a global blueprint for LGBTQ+ oppression and galvanised a movement.
Billy Barrett and Ellice Stevens's After the Act is a funny, camp and unapologetically queer musical about how a moral panic gripped a nation – and a community decided to fight back. Its inspiring, often heartbreaking, stories of teachers, students and activists impacted by the legislation are accompanied by a joyously exuberant score written by Frew and inspired by the music of the 1980s.
It was first produced in 2023 by the award-winning theatre and film company Breach at New Diorama Theatre, London, before performances during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and a UK tour in 2024.

Tupper is a neglected poet but his verse on perhaps the greatest of all poets is a knowing and dedicated tribute.
