In the uncertain, changing, global and interconnected world, the 'alpha' or 'hero' leadership style alone is outdated and inadequate. Quieter professionals, who are often overlooked or taken advantage of without recognition, have immense value to contribute to organisations. In this book, Megumi Miki shares her own experience and those of many other quiet professionals who have achieved great success in the business environment. Megumi believes that a shift in our beliefs about leadership will allow talented quiet professionals to view their quiet nature as a strength and to succeed in their own way, rather than seeing it as a disadvantage. She aims to empower quieter professionals and those outside majority groups to fulfil their potential. Quietly Powerful challenges quiet professionals to reframe the story they tell themselves about their leadership potential - and encourages organisations to expand their ideas about what good leadership looks, sounds and feels like.Voir livre
The Bengal Famine of 1943 was not an isolated event, but rather the culmination of years of political, economic, and environmental factors. To understand the tragedy that claimed the lives of millions, it is essential to examine the conditions that led to this devastating famine. British colonial policies in India played a significant role in shaping the socio-economic landscape of Bengal. Under British rule, India’s agrarian economy was restructured to serve the needs of the colonial administration and its industrial empire. While the British extracted resources for their own benefit, they paid little attention to the welfare of the local population. In Bengal, a region heavily reliant on rice cultivation, this exploitation became increasingly evident as agricultural output was redirected to support the war effort, leaving the local population vulnerable to food shortages. The economic strain caused by World War II exacerbated the situation in Bengal. As Britain sought to maintain its colonial empire, large quantities of rice were diverted from Bengal to support the war in the Pacific, where the Japanese threat loomed large. Additionally, the colonial government’s focus on military expenditure rather than economic development in India drained resources that could have been used for famine prevention and agricultural aid. This led to an economic imbalance, further disrupting food production and distribution in Bengal.Voir livre
In today’s digital world, privacy is no longer a given—it’s something we must actively fight to protect. Every time we browse the web, use social media, or make online purchases, we leave behind a trail of personal data. This data is collected, analyzed, and often sold without our knowledge. Many people believe that if they have “nothing to hide,” they have nothing to worry about. However, this misconception ignores the real risks of online privacy erosion. Companies, governments, and cybercriminals are constantly gathering information about individuals, using it for targeted advertising, surveillance, and even fraud. The websites you visit, the products you search for, and even the time you spend on a page are all tracked to create a detailed profile of who you are. This data is used to manipulate consumer behavior, influence political opinions, and, in some cases, restrict freedoms. Governments argue that surveillance is necessary for national security, but history has shown that mass data collection can lead to severe privacy violations and even oppression. Beyond corporations and governments, cybercriminals exploit the vast amount of personal information available online. Data breaches have become more frequent, exposing millions of users to identity theft, fraud, and financial losses. Social engineering scams take advantage of publicly available data, making it easier for criminals to deceive and manipulate individuals. The more our private information is exposed, the more vulnerable we become to digital threats.Voir livre
