Beschreibung

The Collected Works of Immanuel Kant presents a definitive compendium of the pivotal writings of one of the foremost thinkers of the Enlightenment. This extensive anthology encapsulates Kant's revolutionary ideas on metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, and aesthetics, notably from key texts such as "Critique of Pure Reason" and "Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals." The literary style oscillates between rigorous philosophical discourse and accessible prose, showcasing Kant's methodical approach to inquiry and his ambition to reconcile empirical reality with rational abstraction. Contextually, these works mark a significant paradigm shift, positioning Kant as a central figure in the transition from rationalism to idealism, influencing a myriad of philosophical traditions that followed. Immanuel Kant (1724-1804) was a German philosopher whose intellectual journey was deeply rooted in the scientific and philosophical currents of his time, including the work of Leibniz and Hume. His formative years experienced the blossoming of the Enlightenment, which challenged established doctrines and emphasized reason as a guide for human understanding. This milieu undoubtedly shaped Kant'Äôs exploration of the limits of human knowledge and the moral implications of autonomy, leading to his profound existential inquiries. I highly recommend The Collected Works of Immanuel Kant to anyone keen to engage with foundational philosophical ideas that continue to resonate in contemporary discourse. This anthology not only serves as a vital reference for scholars and students alike but also invites general readers to grapple with profound questions regarding human nature, knowledge, and morality.

Nothing can be more terrifying than knowing the streets are being prowled by a twisted serial killer. To be a female of a certain age and profession on the streets of 19th century London, with the knowledge that one of your clients could be Jack the ripper himself.

There were many more Jack the Rippers in the world.

Every human has a capacity for good or evil. We are all dark and light. This has been known for thousands of years. It has been written, preached and symbolised across the world.

Just as there are those in history who have stood out for their compassion and good works, there are also those who have become infamous for their propensity to evil. From serial killers who murder one human after another to dictators who order mass genocide upon their own citizens - evil knows no bounds.

But what is it that creates these people? Is there an inbuilt genetic lock inside awaiting the turning of a key? Or are these people the result of their life experiences? Does abuse by parents play a key role? Does society itself have to answer for the actions of the murderers that it creates?

It is time to delve deep into the world and mind of serial killers and discover why they kill.

The story of heartbreak to triumph in the wake of a tragedy. Their first date in college was a U2 concert and after that Lauren and Jack Grandcolas were inseparable. He was mesmerized by her sweetness, fierce intelligence and eyes that were as blue and alive as the ocean. They married and settled in San Francisco, each pursuing their dreams in the business world. After a decade of trying, Lauren finally got pregnant at the age of thirty-eight. On September 6, 2001, she flew to New Jersey—her beloved Little Grandma had died and following the funeral Lauren shared the joyous news of her pregnancy to lift her family’s spirits. Flying home to Jack on September 11th, she arrived at Newark airport early and walked on to a flight for which she hadn’t been ticketed: United 93. During that terrifying flight, Lauren left a calm and reassuring voice mail for Jack which remains a testament to her courage and selfless love, even in the face of her own mortality.Like a River to the Sea is a story of love overcoming loss. In this moving memoir, Jack Grandcolas brings to life his college sweetheart while taking the reader through his long journey to make peace with the loss of Lauren and their unborn child. Jack is honest about the depth of his despair and his battles with depression, PTSI, and heavy drinking. As he digs himself out of the deepest hole imaginable, Jack learns universal truths that will help anyone confronted with tragedy.Like a River to the Sea is also a deeply personal look at an event of historical importance. Jack takes us inside the White House to meet with President Bush and to the precipice of a still-smoldering hole in the earth outside of Shanksville, Penn. The book goes aboard United 93 in its final minutes, when this brave collection of Americans fought to retake control of the plane, ultimately preventing the hijackers from completing their mission and becoming the first heroes in the war against terror. As with Jack’s life, Like a River to the Sea is defined by the boundless depths of human love. Eighteen years after losing his wife and their unborn baby, Jack finally remarried, and his new bride so honors the love between him and Lauren that her wedding ring includes stones that Lauren once wore on her finger. This is the magic of Like A River To The Sea, which begins with heartbreak but becomes a story about the triumph of the human spirit.

This is a compendium of theories of the shape of the Earth, along with a great deal of 'Earth Mystery' lore. Richly illustrated, the Book of Earths includes many unusual theories, including Columbus' idea that the Earth is literally pear-shaped, modern theories that the Earth was originally tetrahedral, and so on. Kenton also covers many traditional theories including the ancient Babylonians and Egyptians, Hindu and Buddhist cosmology, and those of the Peruvians, Aztecs and Mongols. She also discusses modern alternative theories such as that of Reed and Koresh. Strangely enough, she misses or ignores the modern flat earth theory of Rowbotham. This is the only apparent omission in this definitive study. Kenton has no apparent axe to grind: this is simply a very readable survey of the literature if you have any interest in 'Earth mysteries"

[How to Recognize Toxic Anxiety] delves into the intricate landscapes of modern anxiety with unflinching precision and intimate understanding. Through lyrical prose that echoes the quiet moments of psychological struggle, this groundbreaking exploration maps the subtle territories where anxiety infiltrates daily life. With remarkable attention to detail, the book illuminates how anxiety transforms ordinary experiences—from morning coffee rituals to midnight thoughts—into complex negotiations with fear. Drawing on rich metaphorical frameworks of weather patterns, architecture, and internal chemistry, it offers readers a revolutionary lens for understanding their own experiences of anxiety. What sets this work apart is its masterful balance of scientific insight and emotional resonance, weaving together the biological underpinnings of anxiety with the deeply personal experience of navigating its presence in contemporary life. The narrative doesn't just describe anxiety; it captures its essence in the spaces between heartbeats, in the pauses between breaths, in the moments between thoughts—making visible what has long remained unseen.
