The fastest-growing malware in the world
The core functionality of ransomware is two-fold: to encrypt data and deliver the ransom message. This encryption can be relatively basic or maddeningly complex, and it might affect only a single device or a whole network.
Ransomware is the fastest-growing malware in the world. In 2015, it cost companies around the world $325 million, which rose to $5 billion by 2017 and is set to hit $20 billion in 2021. The threat of ransomware is not going to disappear, and while the number of ransomware attacks remains steady, the damage they cause is significantly increasing.
It is the duty of all business leaders to protect their organisations and the data they rely on by doing whatever is reasonably possible to mitigate the risk posed by ransomware. To do that, though, they first need to understand the threats they are facing.
    The Ransomware Threat Landscape
This book sets out clearly how ransomware works, to help business leaders better understand the strategic risks, and explores measures that can be put in place to protect the organisation. These measures are structured so that any organisation can approach them. Those with more resources and more complex environments can build them into a comprehensive system to minimise risks, while smaller organisations can secure their profiles with simpler, more straightforward implementation.
Suitable for senior directors, compliance managers, privacy managers, privacy officers, IT staff, security analysts and admin staff – in fact, all staff who use their organisation's network/online systems to perform their role – The Ransomware Threat Landscape: Prepare for, recognise and survive ransomware attacks will help readers understand the ransomware threat they face.
From basic cyber hygiene to more advanced controls, the book gives practical guidance on individual activities, introduces implementation steps organisations can take to increase their cyber resilience, and explores why cyber security is imperative. Topics covered include:

    - Introduction
    - About ransomware

    - Basic measures
    - An anti-ransomware

    - The control framework
    - Risk management

Brian Kateman coined the term "Reducetarian"-a person who is deliberately reducing his or her consumption of meat-and a global movement was born. In this book, Kateman, the founder of the Reducetarian Foundation, presents more than seventy original essays from influential thinkers on how the simple act of cutting ten percent or more of the meat from one's diet can transform the life of the listener, animals, and the planet. This book features contributions from such luminaries as Seth Godin, Joel Fuhrman, Victoria Moran, Jeffrey Sachs, Bill McKibben, Naomi Oreskes, Peter Singer, and others. With over forty vegan, vegetarian, and "less meat" recipes from bestselling cookbook author Pat Crocker, as well as tons of practical tips for reducing the meat in your diet (for example, skip eating meat with dinner if you ate it with lunch; replace your favorite egg omelet with a tofu scramble; choose a veggie burrito instead of a beef burrito; declare a meatless day of the week), The Reducetarian Solution is a life-not to mention planet!-saving book.

In movies, in novels, in comic strips, and on television, we've all seen dinosaurs-or at least somebody's educated guess of what they would look like. But what if it were possible to build, or grow, a real dinosaur without finding ancient DNA? Jack Horner, the scientist who advised Steven Spielberg on the blockbuster film Jurassic Park and a pioneer in bringing paleontology into the twenty-first century, teams up with the editor of the New York Times's Science Times section to reveal exactly what's in store. In the 1980s, Horner began using CAT scans to look inside fossilized dinosaur eggs, and he and his colleagues have been delving deeper ever since. At North Carolina State University, Mary Schweitzer has extracted fossil molecules-proteins that survived 68 million years-from a Tyrannosaurus rex fossil excavated by Horner. These proteins show that T. rex and the modern chicken are kissing cousins. At McGill University, Hans Larsson is manipulating a chicken embryo to awaken the dinosaur within-starting by getting it to grow a tail and eventually prompting it to grow the forelimbs of a dinosaur. All of this is happening without changing a single gene. This incredible research is leading to discoveries and applications so profound they're scary in the power they confer on humanity. How to Build a Dinosaur is a tour of the hot rocky deserts and air-conditioned laboratories at the forefront of this scientific revolution.

Douglas Rushkoff is widely considered to be one of most cutting-edge thinkers of our time. In his book, Program or Be Programmed, Rushkoff asks the question: Do we direct technology or do we let ourselves be directed by it and those who have mastered it? BetterListen! is delighted to make a available a talk Rushkoff gave on his fascinating new book. Following is a transcribed excerpt from that talk which challenges us to think differently about the world around us.

"What I see when I look at the history of culture and technology and computing, and media in particular, is I see occasional rare opportunities for civilization, the majority of people, to decide to participate in what’s going on. For people to actually become what in the sixties we used to call empowerment. For people to actually become empowered to exercise agency in their own affairs and in the world around them."A Better Listen audio production.

There are many fine scripts of quantum chemistry and physics in print at this time. So the question can be raised as to why we would write another script, especially one focusing on the smaller discipline of quantum chemistry. When we began this project years ago, we felt that we were a unique juncture in quantum chemistry and technology and that, immodestly, we had a unique perspective to offer to students.
Much of the mainstream of quantum chemistry is now deeply tied to quantum physics, in a cooperative endeavor called “quantum science.” At the same time, there is a large, growing, and vital community of people who use the applications of quantum chemistry to tackle wide-ranging set of problems in the biological, physical and environmental sciences, engineering, medicine and so on.
We thought it was important to bring together, in a single volume, a rigorous, detailed perspective on both the “pure” and “applied” aspects of quantum chemistry. As such, one might find more detail about any particular subject than one might like. We hope this encourages instructors to summarize the script material and present it in a manner most suitable to a particular audience. The amount of material contained in this book is too much for a one quarter or one semester course and a bit too little for a yearlong course. Instructors can pick and choose which material seems most suitable for their course.
