Summary

Mrs. Penwin gave one of her nervous little screams when she saw the dog.
‘Oh, Charlie!’ she cried. ‘You surely haven’t bought it!’ and her little brow, that she tried so fiercely to keep smooth, puckered into its customary little gathering of wrinkles.
The dog, taking an instant dislike to her, sank his head between his shoulders. He was an Alsatian.
‘Well . . .’ said Charlie, smiling nervously. He knew that his impulsiveness had led him once more astray. ‘Only the other evening you were saying that you’d like a dog.’
‘Yes, but not an Alsatian! You know what Alsatians are. We read about them in the paper every day. They are simply not to be trusted. I’m sure he looks as vicious as anything. And what about Mopsa?’
‘Oh, Mopsa . . .’ Charlie hesitated. ‘He’ll be all right. You see, Sibyl, it was charity really. The Sillons are going to London as you know. They simply can’t take him. It wouldn’t be fair. They’ve found it difficult enough in Edinburgh as it is.’
‘I’m sure they are simply getting rid of him because he’s vicious.’
‘No, Maude Sillon assured me. He’s like a lamb——’
‘Oh, Maude! She’d say anything!’
‘You know that you’ve been wanting a companion for Mopsa——’
‘A companion for Mopsa! That’s good!’ Sibyl laughed her shrill little laugh that was always just out of tune.

October 1840. A young woman staggers alone through a forest in the English countryside as a huge pair of impossible wings rip themselves from her shoulders. In London, rumors of a fallen angel cause a frenzy across the city, and a surgeon desperate for fame and fortune finds himself in the grips of a dangerous obsession, one that will place the women he seeks in the most terrible danger... The Gifts is an astonishing novel, a spellbinding tale told through five different perspectives and set against the luminous backdrop of nineteenth-century London. It explores science, nature and religion, enlightenment, the role of women in society, and the dark danger of ambition.

Are the ghosts real, or is the governess descending into madness? The terror lies in the uncertainty.

Step into the chilling atmosphere of Bly, a secluded country estate where a young, earnest governess is charged with caring for two unnervingly beautiful, orphaned children. But their innocence is shadowed by the presence of two malevolent figures: the ghosts of a former valet and a deceased governess. Henry James masterfully crafts a ghost story that is also a profound work of psychological horror. Feel the mounting suspense and claustrophobia as the governess fights to protect her charges from the unseen evil, all while her own sanity hangs in the balance. This novella is the ultimate literary maze, famous for its ambiguity—a classic that has launched a thousand academic and critical debates.

A foundational text in Gothic literature and a chilling examination of perception, repressed desire, and the corruption of innocence, The Turn of the Screw is literary horror at its finest.

This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice.
This is not a traditional audiobook.
This is a fully character-voiced audiobook, where each major character has their own distinct voice, personality, and emotional presence. Dialogue doesn’t blend together. Characters don’t sound interchangeable. You always know who’s speaking—and more importantly, you feel what they’re feeling.
Think a movie in book form: multiple performers, authentic emotion, and immersive storytelling that pulls you into their world instead of reminding you that you’re listening to a recording.
    This isn’t background noise.
    It’s storytelling you experience.
    Welcome to The Consortium.
The monsters who created them are still out there. And this time, no one gets out untouched.
Amelia and her allies have sparked a movement – liberating factions, awakening powers, and dismantling The Consortium from within. But even as the walls of control begin to crumble, a darker threat rises: the BAF, a faction unlike any other, where inductees are conditioned past the point of humanity … and where the Examiners play God with impunity.
As old ghosts resurface and buried secrets are unearthed, a mysterious figure from The Consortium’s founding emerges with a shocking proposition. He claims he wants to help destroy the organization he helped build. But can he truly be trusted – or is he simply another monster in disguise?
Torn between mercy and survival, the rebels must make an unthinkable choice: risk everything to save the most broken among them – or burn it all to the ground and start again.
Unforgiving and unforgettable, The Consortium: Apex delivers the shattering conclusion to a trilogy where justice comes at a steep price … and survival is never guaranteed.
