Beschreibung

Tim’s real name was not Tim: so much is certain. What it was, I have never inquired. The nickname had been bestowed on him so early in life that the memory of such men and women as knew him ran not to the contrary. Tim was Tim by immemorial custom; even his father, who had little reverence for established usages, never thought of altering this one, and, as one name is as good as another, we too will call him by the only one by which he was ever known. Tim was a slightly-made, lean, brown child, but without the pretty colour brown children usually have. He had such regular little features and such a pale little face that he might almost have been called faded, had he ever looked otherwise. Mrs. Quitchett had pronounced him to be ‘the thinnest and lightest baby ever she see,’ when he was transferred to her care from that of the monthly nurse, in which opinion she was supported by that lady, who might be said to be an authority on such matters. Possibly she too might throw some light on the question of how he came by that pre-baptismal nickname of his, for she alone had had much to do with him previous to the day when he had been carried, a poor little skinny Christian-elect, to be received into the pale of the Church.

Camp Phoenix is a controversial and expensive summer camp program that transfers adults' consciousness into a clone of their childhood selves. On the surface, it's an ordinary summer camp. Twelve-year-old Logan has come to have a relaxing, carefree summer. She wants to ride horses, make new friends, and she loves listening to ghost stories. Sam is a twenty-year-old counselor, taking on the responsibility of the kids' care by day, and riding the rollercoaster of a summer romance after hours.

As Logan faces the ups and downs of puberty, Sam watches over her and struggles with the bizarre truth: the campers in her care are not kids at all, but wealthy adults immersed in the ultimate escape from reality.

What Logan doesn't know—or at least, can't remember—is that she and her friends will all have to return to their grownup bodies once the summer is over. Logan will again be a successful, middle-aged woman, and the popular boy she has a crush on? He will return to his life as a celebrity suspect at the center of a high-profile murder case.

And the lives of the crew, and of everyone they love, are on the line.
With their backs to the wall and no more tokens up their sleeves, they’ll need every bit of skill and ingenuity they possess, the help of old allies and new friends, and a hell of a lot of luck if they want to to stop Evka—or even if they just want to make it out alive.

William Butler Yeats was born on 13th June 1865 in Sandymount, Ireland to a family that historically had a passion for the arts.
At two his family moved to London to enable his elder siblings to pursue their artistic careers. Yeats went to the Godolphin School as well as receiving further instruction from his mother and his brother.
Back in Dublin in the early 1880s the teenager attended Erasmus Smith High School and then the National College of Art and Design. It was now that Yeats began his adventure with poetry and literature culminating in the 1889 publication of ‘The Wanderings of Oisin & Other Poems’.
In 1890, back in London Yeats was a founder member of The Rhymers Club, a group of bohemians based at the Cheshire Cheese Pub in Fleet St, and helped it receive a formidable reputation both in Decadent and Modernist poetry.
In the last years of the 19th Century his passion for theatre found him with other playwrights founding the Abbey Theatre, giving him a platform to perform his own experimental plays as well as by others to establish an Irish theatrical tradition.
By now his poetry was both refined and widely admired with verse such as ‘Easter, 1916’, ‘The Wild Swans at Coole’ and ‘The Second Coming.’ In other genres his plays and his stories, many based on Irish folklore, found a growing audience and his works taken together clearly show his Irish Nationalism coming to the fore.
His handsome features and romantic nature led to many affairs but those he wanted including Katharine Tynan and Maud Gonne rejected him but kept him as a life-long friend. It was only in 1917, in his 50’s, that he married the much younger Georgie Hyde-Lees.
With Ireland now a free nation he was appointed to the first Irish Senate in 1922. The following year there came the recognition of the Nobel Prize in Literature with the citation "for his always inspired poetry, which in a highly artistic form gives expression to the spirit of a whole nation".
By the end of the decade several years of health problems had worn him down but after a radical new treatment he was seemingly back to his best.
William Butler Yeats died on 28th January 1939 in Menton, France. In accordance with his wishes: 'If I die, bury me up there and then in a year's time when the newspapers have forgotten me, dig me up and plant me in Sligo'.

    D H Lawrence

David Herbert Lawrence was born on the 11th September 1885 in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire, a coal mining town where the reality of a harsh life was only useful as experiences for future literary works.

He was educated at Beauvale Board School and became the first local boy to receive a scholarship to attend Nottingham High School. After 3 years he became a junior clerk in Haywood’s surgical appliances factory. He was also attempting a literary career which, in the short term, led to a teacher training position in Eastwood and later a teaching qualification from University College, Nottingham.

Lawrence’s first efforts were poems, short stories and a draft of ‘The White Peacock’. Moving to London and a teaching position in Croydon his writing attracted the attention of Ford Madox Ford, editor of The English Review, and he commissioned him to write ‘Odour of Chrysanthemums’.

Wanting to write full-time he now began work on what would become ‘Sons and Lovers.

In 1912 he met the older and married mother-of-three Frieda Weekley. They eloped to Germany and here Lawrence could see for himself the growing tensions with France. So keen was his interest that he was arrested and accused of being a British spy.

In early 1914 Frieda obtained her divorce and they returned to Britain to be married just days before the outbreak of war. Owing to her German parentage, and his own public dislike of militarism and violence, the couple were treated with contempt and suspicion throughout the war years.

Despite this he continued to write but his reputation in England was so tarnished and, mirrored by his own disdain for the country, he and Frieda left England in November 1919, first for Europe and then America via Ceylon and Australia.

They bought a ranch in Taos, New Mexico and visited Mexico several times. The third visit in March 1925 caused a near fatal attack of malaria. To convalesce they moved to Florence. Here he continued work on ‘Lady Chatterley’s Lover’ which for many years would cause controversy. A renewed interest in oil painting resulted in an exhibition in 1929 which was raided by the police and several works were confiscated.

D H Lawrence died of complications arising from a bout of tuberculosis on the 2nd of March 1930 in Vence, France. He was 44.

In ‘The Horse Dealers daughter’ a young woman begins a relationship with a young doctor and a friend of her brothers. What should be straight forward is intimately investigated by Lawrence’s foraging pen.
