Sinossi

In "The Guardsman," Homer Greene weaves a gripping narrative that intricately explores themes of loyalty, sacrifice, and the moral complexities of duty through the lens of a soldier navigating the chaotic landscape of war. Greene employs a stark yet poetic literary style, blending vivid imagery with profound psychological insights, reflecting both the external and internal battles faced by those in uniform. The book's literary context aligns with the tradition of war literature, bringing fresh perspectives and emotional depth to the genre, while also echoing the existential inquiries characteristic of modernist literary movements. Homer Greene, a veteran of military conflict, draws upon his personal experiences and the histories of those he encounters to inform his writing. This unique vantage point allows him to portray the soldier's psyche authentically, revealing the profound struggles of identity and purpose amidst the chaos of warfare. Greene'Äôs background in both literature and military service culminates in a work that is as much a testament to his commitment to storytelling as it is a commentary on the human condition. Readers seeking an evocative exploration of the complexities of soldierhood will find "The Guardsman" an essential addition to their literary repertoire. This work not only entertains but also invites reflection on our societal notions of heroism and the often unseen burdens borne by those who serve.

Lady Eleanor knows everyone who counts, and at her annual sumptuously extravagant party, Charlie will meet them all.

On the summer solstice eve, the party is in full swing with the cream of Parisian society entranced by burlesque dancers, tightrope walkers, a jazz band and fireworks lighting the night skies. But as Charlie is drawn into the magical world of parties, couture houses and bohemian wine bars, secrets start to unravel, including her own. Putting a foot wrong could spell death…

In this magnificent new beginning to the joyful Charlie James series, Manning beguiles with glamour and mystery set in pre-war Paris.

When a fire at Zagreb’s Three Palms café tragically takes the life of the owner’s son, everyone joins the search for a culprit. And there can only be one: the young Roma man—Enis—employed as a waiter at the café.With all eyes on him, Enis is forced to flee, his face looming large on the front page of every newspaper and channel. The only place where he can think to take refuge is in Bosnia, in the settlement where his estranged father lives. Meanwhile, the event, which coincides with the outbreak of the wars of the 1990s in the former Yugoslavia, draws a crowd to surround the Roma settlement in Zagreb, turning it into a ghetto. The protesters blame the Roma collectively, seeing danger in their differences.Weaving between Zagreb and Bosnia, between past and present, between a Roma ghetto in the heart of Zagreb and the lesser-known ghettos of the Roma Holocaust (or Porajmos), and between an imagined better life and the blaring trumpets of war in reality, Nebojša Lujanović’s Cloud the Color of Skin tells a story of guilt and justice, victimhood and violence, peacetime and war—and the Roma in the midst of it all.The book Cloud the Color of Skin was published as part of the Growing Together project, co-financed by the European Union.

    The Pendle Witches England 1600's
Book 6 of 7 Anne Redferne
The books are fictionally based on the true names and part facts of seven of the accused witches involved being sentenced to death mostly, although innocent, and is as follows:
Anne Redferne, the gentle daughter of notorious witch Chattox, lived a life overshadowed by her mother's dark reputation in Pendle Forest. A skilled herb gatherer devoted to raising her young daughter Marie, Anne's quiet existence shattered when a neighbor accused her of cursing his crops. Though innocent, Anne was condemned by her mother's damning witchcraft confession and the testimony of child witness Jennet Device. In Lancaster Castle's dungeon, she received a vision: a golden wheat field promising peace beyond suffering. On August 20, 1612, Anne walked silently to the gallows, her final thoughts of the daughter she would never see again. Unlike her defiant mother or wealthy co-accused Alice Nutter, Anne met death with bowed head - a poignant symbol of ordinary lives destroyed by witch hysteria. Her story, often overlooked in the Pendle trials, reveals how fear could transform quiet poverty into "evidence" of witchcraft.
This is the sixth book in a series of seven audiobooks and I do hope you enjoy ,(might not be the appropriate word, this instalment, and it's only $3 dollars.
the initial opening credit music which does run to approximately 2 minutes plus, called Haunting Elegy, uses flute and harp to set the scene of witches living life as they could. The closing music ends in a sad way, called Melancholy same instrumental at nearly 3 minutes as the fate that befalls these innocent people awaits them.!
The story itself runs to about 25 minutes, and and is narrated in my own voice.
Please let me know what you think, there are a lot more to come!.
