The police suspect a tragic accident, but Dottie notices the patterns have been deliberately rearranged to form a coded message and the victim's final project contains fabric cuts that don't match any known design. With her shop's reputation hanging by a thread and the sewing community in an uproar, Dottie must measure up as an investigator. Assisted by her vintage sewing group and the handsome textile archivist documenting local fashion history, Dottie uncovers a scheme involving pattern forgery, stolen vintage designs, and a black market for rare sewing blueprints. From suspicious cutting lines that reveal unauthorized alterations to tissue paper that doesn't match the era, every pattern tells a story. But when Dottie discovers the victim was blackmailing designers about their stolen patterns and copyright infringements, she realizes the killer is protecting a fashion empire built on stolen ideas. With the annual Vintage Fashion Show approaching and the real culprit still cutting corners, Dottie must piece together this patchwork of deception before her own pattern gets permanently discontinued.
