Synopsis

🎨 Natural dye artist and botanical expert Indigo "Indy" Vatson is hosting a natural dye workshop when the workshop's wealthy sponsor—a ruthless synthetic dye manufacturer—is found dead in her studio, face-down in a vat of her signature madder root dye. The police suspect a tragic accident, but Indy notices the dye bath has been chemically altered and the victim's business contracts contain hidden clauses about color patent theft. With her studio shut down and the dyeing community in turmoil, Indy must extract the truth from this colorful conspiracy. Assisted by her natural dye collective and the handsome forensic chemist analyzing pH levels, Indy uncovers a scheme involving dye formula theft, color patent infringement, and a plot to sabotage natural dyers. From suspicious colorfastness tests that reveal chemical tampering to plant material that doesn't match the growing region, every hue tells a story. But when Indy discovers the victim was systematically stealing ancient dye recipes from indigenous communities to patent them for corporate profit, she realizes the killer is protecting cultural heritage more vibrant than any synthetic color. With the natural dye symposium approaching and the real color thief still stirring the pot, Indy must fix the evidence before her own business bleeds out completely.
