Assisted by her natural dye collective and the handsome forensic chemist analyzing pH levels, Indy uncovers a scheme involving dye formula theft, color patent infringement, and a plot to sabotage natural dyers. From suspicious colorfastness tests that reveal chemical tampering to plant material that doesn't match the growing region, every hue tells a story. But when Indy discovers the victim was systematically stealing ancient dye recipes from indigenous communities to patent them for corporate profit, she realizes the killer is protecting cultural heritage more vibrant than any synthetic color.
