Beschreibung

History Hub presents a complete biography of Edward I from start to end, whose remarkable story inspires us even today.

Known as Edward Longshanks or Hammer of the Scots, Edward I had quite the reputation as a battle-hungry aggressor. However, he was not just someone who liked to shed blood for the sake of it but viewed it as his kingly duty. Ascending to the throne on 19 August 1274 at Westminster Abbey, he desperately wanted the well-being of his people and had a fierce determination to reestablish the throne.
He conquered Wales, leaving behind a string of castles that still stand centuries later, such as Caernarfon, Harlech, and Beaumaris. He has gone down as one of the most effective kings of England. Intelligent yet impatient, Edward I’s leadership made up for the instability his father’s rule brought to the kingdom. And make up for it, he did in a way that still has Englishmen revering him to this day.

As a journalist and author, John Lazenby has spent more than forty years chronicling the tales of others. But for much of his life he closely guarded his own compelling story – a long and challenging struggle with childhood dyslexia, unable to read or write at a time when neurodiversity was rarely considered or recognised. Sent away to boarding school at the age of seven, John's future pivoted on the life-changing intervention of a teacher who finally understood the boy whom no one else could teach.
In this warm and poignant memoir, John traces his misadventures through the unforgiving education system of the 1960s, when illiteracy was viewed as a character defect that could be rectified by stern discipline and regular beatings, and takes us on an evocative visit to the not-so-distant past, introducing the kind and eccentric family who never gave up on him – and the array of teachers who did.
We follow the intrepid progress of a boy who could write only one word – his name, spelled backwards – to a man who finally found his true calling after a series of setbacks and false starts, only to make the late discovery that he had travelled through life unaware of a second neurodiversity, hiding in plain sight. Heart-warming, hilarious, raw and shocking, NHOJ is a tribute to overcoming challenges, ignoring barriers and holding on to hope in a world that initially seems to have no place for you.

When Covid-19 swept the world, governments scrambled to protect their citizens and chart a course back to normality. As Health Secretary, Matt Hancock was at the forefront of Britain's battle against the virus, trying to steer the country through the crisis in a world where information was scarce, judgements huge and the roadmap non-existent.
Drawing on a wealth of never-before-seen material, including official records, his notes at the time and communications with all the key players in Britain's Covid-19 story, this candid account reveals the inner workings of government during a time of national crisis, reflecting on both the successes and the failures.
Recounting the most important decisions in the race to develop a vaccine in record time and to build a nationwide testing capacity from the ground up, Pandemic Diaries provides the definitive account of Britain's battle to turn the tide against Covid-19. Crucially, it also offers an honest assessment of the lessons we need to learn to be prepared for next time – because there will be a next time.

Travelogues are boring, especially the ones about cycling.
My 30th birthday present to myself was to quit my job, set out from Seattle, and maybe cycle the world. BOOK RED begins this insane journey. When my bike started falling apart in the first two days, things weren’t looking so good. When pedaling 9 hours a day wasn’t supplying enough serotonin, things weren’t looking so good. An elated mind will smile at strangers; a diseased one will make games of passing bottles of urine, dead animals, and roadside crosses.
I die in the book, a few times. In fact, it's one of my favorite things to do while cycling. Though many have cycled to Mesa Verde, I detour into the Hopi’s Land of the Dead. Hallucinations of a former lover haunt at the most unsuspecting times: on a frisbee golf course, behind Germany’s Disneyland castle, and chasing rabbits at night. The songs and poems in the book hearken back to a time before the DSM, while ridiculous recipes don’t offer assurance I’m going to make it.
THIRTY has all the pieces of an adventure novel: how to fix things, unreal encounters, braving the unknown... yet seems to see everything the wrong way. The world it creates, the choices made, are at times absurd, but when you're in unfamiliar places and only talk to strangers, it all starts to makes sense.

In this six-session Audio Bible Study, Rabbi Jason Sobel uncovers connections between the Old Testament and New Testament that are vital in giving us a complete picture of God's plan for sending Jesus into the world as the Messiah. In the Gospel of Luke, we read how Jesus revealed this connection to two disciples on the road to Emmaus. They listened as Jesus explained, "beginning with Moses and the Prophets . . . what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself," and later asked themselves, "Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?" (Luke 24:27,32).
Too many of us today are likewise missing this connection. We are settling for just the New Testament or the Old Testament and not understanding how the Bible fits together as a whole to offer one complete picture of Jesus. Both the Old and New are God's priceless possessions . . . and neither one is more or less valuable than the other. However, together their value increases dramatically! For both are needed in order for us to experience our full inheritance in God's kingdom and His beloved children.
As Rabbi Jason unlocks these connections, participants will come to understand:How the foundation of the Bible (The Torah) fits with the rest of ScriptureHow the Torah answers the question of "who is the promised seed?"How all of the Bible works to give a picture of the promise of MessiahWhat implications this has for their lives as the Old and New Testaments come together
The Mysteries of the Messiah will show participants that God's Word—written by many people over thousands of years—is not a random selection of people and stories but of intricate connections. Rabbi Jason will connect the dots, helping them see with clarity and "high definition" what God intended.
The Audio Bible Study series provides a unique learning experience. Instead of sitting down to watch a video teaching for Bible study, listen to the same quality Bible study content on the go! Whether you listen on your commute, while walking outside, or over a lunch break, you can access high-quality audio Bible studies wherever you are. For decades, Alex Murdaugh lived at the center of influence in South Carolina’s
Lowcountry. He was more than a successful attorney—he was a gatekeeper. A
trusted insider. A man whose family name shaped courtrooms, controlled
outcomes, and discouraged questions across an entire region.

    Access
came easily to him. Accountability did not.

    Behind
the scenes, the Murdaugh legacy was sustained by loyalty, silence, and a long
history of problems quietly smoothed over. Deaths were explained away. Rumors
faded. The system held—until it didn’t.

    Everything
changed on a summer night at Moselle, the family’s secluded hunting estate,
when Alex Murdaugh’s wife Maggie and son Paul were brutally murdered. What
first appeared to be an unspeakable tragedy soon exposed something far deeper:
the collapse of a legal empire that had operated above scrutiny for
    generations.

    This book
follows the full arc of that collapse. It traces how power was built, how it
was protected, and how Alex Murdaugh nearly escaped consequences yet again.
Through detailed reporting from inside the courtroom and across the rural
backroads of the Lowcountry, it reconstructs the investigation, the mounting
contradictions, and the digital evidence that finally closed in.

    More than
a crime story, this is an examination of how privilege distorts justice—and
what happens when the truth refuses to stay hidden. With clear, gripping
narrative and uncompromising attention to fact, The Devil Close at His Elbow
reveals how a man who once controlled the system became trapped by it.

    This is
the complete account of a fall decades in the making—and the moment power
    finally failed.
