Synopsis

History Hub presents a complete biography of BTS from start to end, whose remarkable story inspires us even today.

Currently known as Beyond the Scene, the seven-member kpop supergroup started off as The Bulletproof Boy Scouts (or Bangtan Seonyeondan in Korean) under the relatively unknown company BigHit Entertainment (now known as HYBE). No one would have guessed that this unknown group would one day be topping world charts and doing what other kpop groups had failed to do for decades—break into the mainstream western music market.

Composed of Kim Namjoon, Kim Seokjin, Min Yoongi, Jung Hoseok, Park Jimin, Kim Taehyung, and Jeon Jungkook, the group was an unlikely candidate for success. Their looks were not what kpop culture often found attractive, and their music was a little different from the rest. It was unusual that a group that wasn’t from one of Korea’s big three companies could make it big. But BTS until now continues to break barriers in the entertainment industry.

Discover in this short yet concise biography the remarkable story of a life who impacted future generations. This book also contains 30 questions for an in-depth discussion into the life of BTS.

This first critical biography of radio broadcaster, stage director, and auteur filmmaker Michael Cacoyannis examines his prolific body of work within the socio-political context of his times. Best known as a bold modernist for triple-Oscar-winner 'Zorba the Greek', Michael likewise was hailed as an astute classicist for his inventive interpretations of Euripides. Working across several continents and languages, he forwarded feminist, humanist, and pacifist agendas, as he further innovated crafty LGBT narratives of unprecedented artistry and complexity. Despite intense persecution during the Cold War red scare and lavender scare, his casts and crews of frugal cosmopolitans critiqued racism, militarism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia. Avoiding censorship, job loss, and jail, Michael thereby laid foundations for the 1990s new queer cinema and set the stage for empowering dramas of socio-economic justice in the third millennium. Over his long life and productive career, Michael exposed and espoused the vital truths up his sleeve.

Marion Motley was recognized as one of the gridiron's most outstanding players when he was enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1968. His legacy as one of four Black players to reintegrate pro football in 1946 helped blaze a path for Black athletes in the highest echelons of professional sports. Black players once thrived during the early days of the NFL. Then a "gentleman's agreement" among NFL owners in 1933 kept those players out of the highest level of the sport. That changed in 1946. Hall of Fame coach Paul Brown was putting together the inaugural Cleveland Browns roster and signed Black players Motley and Bill Willis to be a part of it. Years earlier, Brown had coached his high school team against Motley's. They formed a strong partnership first with a Navy team and then in Cleveland, where Motley twice led his league in rushing yards and helped the Browns win five championships. Motley's efforts to play a physically brutal game in the face of societal racism and state-sanctioned Jim Crow laws helped reintegrate American sports. Yet half a century after Motley's enshrinement to the Hall of Fame, the memory of Motley and his accomplishments on and off the field have begun to fade. This book tells Motley's story of adversity, personal tragedy, and triumphs using archival interviews and new interviews with historians, friends, and descendants.
