Beschreibung

Herodotus's "The Histories" stands as a pioneering work in the realm of historical narrative, intertwining a rich tapestry of anecdotal accounts, cultural observations, and intricate political analyses from the Greek and Persian worlds. Written in the 5th century BCE, this text employs a prose style that ebbs and flows between informational chronicle and engaging storytelling, inviting readers into a vibrant world of conflict, exploration, and human experience. Herodotus not only chronicles the Greco-Persian Wars but also provides an extensive examination of the customs, beliefs, and histories of various peoples, positioning his work within the larger context of a burgeoning inquiry into the nature of history and human behavior. Herodotus, often considered the 'Father of History,' was born in Halicarnassus (modern-day Bodrum, Turkey) around 484 BCE. His travels throughout the Mediterranean and his interactions with diverse cultures undoubtedly influenced his writing. A keen observer of human nature and a seeker of truth amidst competing narratives, Herodotus aimed to create a comprehensive account that transcends mere dates, weaving the thread of humanity's shared past through mythology, geography, and ethics. Recommended for both scholars and general readers, "The Histories" remains an essential text for understanding the foundations of historical inquiry and narrative techniques. Herodotus's profound insights into human behavior and sociopolitical dynamics continue to resonate, making this work a timeless exploration of the complexities of history, encouraging readers to appreciate the interwoven nature of cultures and events that shape our world.

This audiobook contains over 60 of Mussolini's earlier speeches, covering the years 1914-1923: from soon after his expulsion from the Socialist Party for supporting WWI, to his becoming Prime Minister yet still submitting outwardly to democratic rule. (He seized power, threw off the democratic yoke, and became dictator in 1925-1927.

Benito Amilcare Andrea Mussolini, born on July 29, 1883, who went by the nickname “Il Duce” (“the Leader”), was a deeply unbalanced tyrannical Italian dictator who created the dreaded Fascist Party in 1919. Eventually, he held all power in Italy as the country’s prime minister from 1922 to 1943. An ardent socialist as a youth, Mussolini followed in his father's political footsteps but was expelled by the party for his overt support of World War I. As an evil dictator during World War II (even murdering his own son by lethal injection) he greatly overextended his forces and was eventually killed by his own people in Mezzegra, Italy. Here, for the first time, are the words of the great dictator himself in his twisted manifesto on the political movement he started and is still so feared to this very day.

My Brother's Keeper tells the behind-the-scenes story of how the American president and the Israeli prime minister clashed about peace, war, and the future of the region.

Barack Obama and Benjamin Netanyahu viewed the world—and especially the Middle East—differently. The US president wanted to end what he saw as America's perpetual war against the Muslim and Arab worlds, use diplomacy to bring about a Palestinian state coexisting peacefully with Israel, and apply his signature foreign policy vision to reward the Islamic Republic of Iran in exchange for the scaling back of their nuclear pursuits. The Israeli premier wanted his country to thrive without the senseless bloodshed of terror and violence, and he was determined to protect the Jewish state from threats of annihilation by a member of the axis of evil that would one day be armed with nuclear weapons. Netanyahu wanted peace for peace, as well as the acceptance of Israel as a full-fledged part of the Middle East. In 2014, during a pivotal summer of terrorist violence, a war in Gaza, and the advancement of a nuclear deal with Iran, the two men clashed, threatening the US-Israeli strategic alliance and the future of the region. The Middle East would never be the same.
