Beschreibung

Moidl is a farmer's daughter from the Hohenhauser Farm in Hintertux in the Zillertal region of Tyrol. Her close bonds with her family and the farm are her lifeblood, and the various blows they are dealt by fate only serve to make these ties stronger. She remains unmarried, labouring day after day from early morning to late at night on the farm.
At a market, she comes across Hermann, an orphan of only twelve years of age who is desperately seeking a job in order to survive and is passed around like an unwanted animal. Out of pity and because they can always use an extra pair of hands on the Hohenhauser farm, Moidl takes the boy home with her, where he shows himself to be a hard worker and is soon a great help to the farmer Thomas and to Moidl herself. When Thomas dies, Moidl has to take over the farm at the age of 76. And soon, the question is, who will run the farm in the future? For Moidl and her ancestors, one thing was always clear: the farm had to remain in the family …
In this book, Hermann Egger tells a heart-rending, yet gripping and above all authentic story – that of his own family.

A chilling journey through the corridors of power, Empire of Pain exposes the rise and fall of one of the most powerful families in American pharmaceutical history. At the heart of the opioid epidemic lies a dynasty that built an empire on pain—driven by ambition, protected by influence, and sustained by denial.
This gripping narrative unveils how a fortune was forged not just with innovation, but through manipulation of public trust, regulatory loopholes, and aggressive marketing. As addiction swept across the nation, the architects remained hidden behind boardroom walls and museum wings.

Heidi Barr didn't believe in Jesus. No one in her Jewish family did, nor did they want to—especially not her father, who told her that Jesus Christ was the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on humankind. So when Heidi was in a terrible horseback riding accident and died at age sixteen, Jesus was the last person she expected to see. Yet she did. And then she returned to life.

This is the incredible true story of Heidi's difficult family life, her sudden death, her unexpectedly loving encounter with Jesus, and her return to life on earth as a person completely and irrevocably changed. This is also the story of Heidi loving her father and mother despite their disbelief of and disagreement with her faith. And this is the gripping, beautiful story of her parents' eventual reconciliation both with Heidi and with God, through the redeeming grace and all-encompassing love of Jesus Christ.

In January 1972, my beloved teen brother, Richard, was late coming home from sledding. Extensive searches yielded no indication of Richard’s whereabouts. No one reported seeing or hearing anything that helped. We found no sled, no gloves, no hat…
    And no Richard.
He had vanished without a trace. There was not one solid clue for my parents or the police to investigate. How did life go on after a loved one goes missing? My 11-year-old self was grieved and confused. Was Richard someone’s captive? Was he being hurt? Would the police advocate for Richard? Who could I trust? Who would help? What was now a normal day? Life became insane.
So began an endless cycle of searches, ransom calls, and police investigations. Unanswered questions swirled with dashed hopes to make a slurry of heartache. I blocked out the trauma. The ever-present need for closure left me anxious and angry. I was angry with the police, my parents, myself, and, even God. My faith in Jesus, fragile as a snowflake, had melted.
Did God overlook evil? Did I have to forgive? Who received Mercy? And what about Justice? As I matured, my yearning for these answers actually led me to find Jesus as Lord. Together we traversed these faith-crushing questions to glean true faith.
Despite years of living in the traumatic chaos of an unsolved crime against my family, I found answers in Jesus. I hope my journey of faith will inspire you to find God’s Goodness. His Love never fails.

Saints are the powerful, benevolent dead. They remain connected to the living to provide assistance, especially in times of need. Everyone has patron saints, even the marginalized who may feel abandoned and removed from these spiritual traditions. Queer Saints: A Radical Guide to Magic, Miracles, and Modern Intercession is a contemporary reimagining of an ancient spiritual practice—the intercessory power of saints. “Intercession” is typically defined as the action of intervening for another. Pagliarulo offers listeners a wide range of saints that includes the traditional, as well as re-envisioned saints specifically for a queer constituency. These include Saint David Bowie, Saint Freddie Mercury, Saint Alexander McQueen, Saint Moms Mabley, and Saint André Leon Talley. Pagliarulo explains why these are queer saints and offers practical information on how to venerate them—from building altars to making offerings. Queer Saints makes change and self-empowerment accessible to listeners of all faiths and belief systems by spotlighting the transformative impact queer saints have had on our world and their burgeoning influence on our spiritual future.
