Synopsis

The best thing that you can expect from a book is that it actually transports to the scene by imaginative and realistic narration of the story. Moby Dick, is one such book that talks about the how blinded one can get when it comes to revenge and hatred and they choose to overlook what is at stake. Moby Dick is actually a great white whale against whom Ahab bears a grudge for loosing his leg. Driven by his sheer vengeance, he put the entire crew along with the ship at stake. A compelling story of the tussle between man and nature in which the latter of course wins. Man remains a mute spectator who is still reeling in its mysteries.

A ruined young man about to drown himself steps into a curiosity shop and is offered a piece of shagreen that grants every wish — and shrinks with each one, dragging his life in with it. Balzac wrote it at thirty-two and made his name; he worked nights on fifty cups of coffee a day and died at fifty-one, which gives the parable an edge he did not intend. Forty plates of painting from 1794 to 1880, among them Daumier and Courbet, catch the fable's darker moods in night bridges, street musicians and the Erlking's ride.
