Call me Ishmael… and join the hunt for the most famous whale in literary history.
When young Ishmael joins the whaling ship Pequod, he embarks on a journey that will take him across the world's oceans. But the ship's captain, Ahab, has only one goal: to find and kill Moby Dick, the monstrous white whale who took his leg. As the voyage unfolds, Ahab's relentless pursuit becomes a gripping tale of adventure, vengeance, and the unyielding power of nature.

26 of Uncle Remus's stories put into verse and song. With the exception of the Tar Baby story, they were all new to this publication of 1904 and cover a variety of humorous subjects from Adan and Eve (De Appile Tree) to Brer Rabbit's Gigglin' Place. There are also genuine Camp Meeting Songs and a Corn Shuckin' Song.
The underlying story of Brer Rabbit (Brother Rabbit) is actually an African-American folk tale, passed down many generations through strorytelling.
An anthology of these tales was compiled by Joel Harris in 1881. They were collectively known as the Uncle Remus Stories.
The idea of a "tar-baby" has been around a very long time, and did not have any racist connotation at it's origin. It originated as the gum-doll used by Anansi in African folklore. The Tar-Baby is the second of the Uncle Remus stories published in 1880. It is about a doll made of tar and turpentine used by the villainous Br'er Fox to entrap Br'er Rabbit. The more that Br'er Rabbit fights the Tar-Baby, the more entangled he becomes. And of course there is the famous ending with Br'er Rabbit pleading for Br'er Fox to do anyhing to him "But PLEASE don't throw me into the briar patch!!" Which of course is exactly where he wants to go. In modern usage, "tar baby" refers to any "sticky situation" that is only aggravated by additional involvement with it.
An example of the written dialog by Harris “Bimeby, one day, after Brer Fox bin doin’ all dat he could fer ter ketch Brer Rabbit, en Brer Rabbit bin doin’ all he could fer ter keep ’im fum it, Brer Fox say to hisse’f dat he’d put up a game on Brer Rabbit, en he ain’t mo’n got de wuds out’n his mouf twel Brer Rabbit come a-lopin’ up de big road, lookin’ des ez plump en ez fat en ez sassy ez a Moggin hoss in a barley-patch." Any eligible woman—mortal and immortal alike—would leap at the chance to become the powerful duke's bride. But Rain isn't interested.

She's lived outside of society too long to ever fit into Night's world of shapeshifting tricksters and back-stabbing politicians. And Rain demands more than the trappings of marriage. She wants a match with heart.

Night doesn't have the luxury of time to change his mate's mind. War looms closer and the Lunar Court is caught in the middle. Out of options, the fae duke sees only one choice.

An Enemy of Peace by Robert Silverberg - When enemies of peace threaten the System, they must be eliminated. There are many ways to do this. And if all else fails, you can always go to war with them.
Center City belonged to Lloyd Riddell, and Lloyd Riddell belonged to the city. He had held it together almost single-handed while the white blaze of atomics laid waste the horizon; he had turned panic into determination, defeat into dogged refusal to lie down. He had fought for the city. He had killed for it.
And now the city was threatened again.
"When does Northburg intend to attack us?"
"I—I don't know," Len Colter said. "It all depends on what's going on in David Barr's mind. I lit out for Center City as soon as I heard him making the speech, there in that rubbleheap. The minute I heard him yelling, 'We must wipe out Center City,' I knew I had to come back here and let you know."
Riddell scowled. "I suppose you did the best thing. But you should have waited. You should have found out when they plan to attack."
    "I'm sorry, sir, I—"
"Forget it," Riddell said sharply. "Get going. Get back to Northburg, scout around, find out whatever you can about this invasion. And send Ken Naylor in when you leave."
    "Yes, sir."
The youthful spy turned and left. Riddell stared at the boy's back as he passed through the door, then studied the gold letters on the glass door that said "Mayor of Center City" in reverse.
He had come to Center City twenty years ago, a frightened, lonely ten-year-old orphan with no place to stay. That had been before the Madness. Center City had taken him in, given him a home, foster parents, all the things denied him so long.
